Read MoreMelbourne’s soulsters, Velvet Bloom release their first music for 2022 with the aptly-titled sultry single, ‘Glimmer’. It follows on from last year’s beckoning soul jam, ‘Run’, and is the second single to be lifted off Velvet Bloom’s forthcoming debut EP of the same name.
‘Glimmer’ is a wonder of a track. The musicianship is almost intimidating, from the controlled smokey croon of front woman Maddy Herbert, through to the layers of jazz influences that are crammed under a soulful blanket.
Read MoreMelbourne-based rockers Unbroken Expanse load up on Celtic punk rock epicness to deliver a killer new single (and music video for) ‘Bootstrap Billy’.
You have to love a song that’s based on a fictional character, and often, this particular genre of rock (punk rock with Celtic flavour) does it the best. You can smell the beer, and the sweat with this raucous sing along.
Caboolture’s merry men of alt rock, Interism have offered up their latest EP, ‘3 Piece Feed’ - three killer tracks of tasty, fried Australian alternative grunge punk, ready for consumption.
Interism have been purveyors of nostalgic alternative rock, particularly that with a 90s Australian alt tone, for some time, and ‘3 Piece Feed’ is an extension of their previous offerings (the single, ‘Honestly’, and the full length album, ‘Avondale St’). There’s nothing over-cooked in this sonic meal, stripping it back to guitar(s), drums, bass and vocals. It’s pure volume, sweat and good ol’ mosh-ready grunge-y punk rock in the vein of Bodyjar, NOFX, and Gyroscope.
Read MoreSunshine Coast’s Shen Panthers have had enough of 2022 already, and have opened a can of whoop-ass in the guise of their new single, ‘Psychedelic Alleyway’ - a 6 minute and 18 second mammoth journey that is free for the taking.
In an age of heavy music consumption and two-minute tracks, it’s not often a single hits the 6 minute plus bracket, but Shen Panthers shun the trend and have delivered their own epic in ‘Psychedelic Alleyway’.

‘Wait’ hits hard, with a wall of guitars that closes in on you faster than a trash compactor on the Death Star.
Read MoreGold Coast’s The Vultures take their indie-rock sounds, and make them disco ready to honour the end of summer with their new single, ‘Conversations’.
‘Conversations’ is airy, but tight. That guitar/bass/drum groove is locked in so tight, which lets the atmospheric synths float around like a hazy cloud of smoke in an 80s nightclub.

Already attracting the ears of radio, both nationally and in the US with singles ‘Lady’ and ‘Liquid Dreams’, Lucid Safari - the project for songwriter Daniel J Lewis and his roster of local musicians - display a level of musical maturity that generally takes a few years on the live circuit to solidify.

Welcoming the listener into her world of pop and R&B, ‘Way Up’ is a sonically positive song written in a place of retrospective sorrow as an ode to her late grandmother. The heartfelt lyrics deliver glimpses of her emotion, before committing to a sense of hope and love that transpires through Thea’s free-flowing vocals.

‘Normal Problems’ comes across like Tim Freedman from The Whitlams deciding to randomly jam with the guys from Airbourne. As ridiculous as a description this is, it bloody well works.
Read MoreIn the lead up to the release of their debut album later this month, Sydney’s fuzzed-out post-punk trio, oWo have offered-up the first single (and title track), ‘Super Role Model’.
‘Super Role Model’ is a scuzzy, fuzzed-out swagger, with a bass line that sounds like it’s looking for a fight. The drums have a slacker feel, but aggressively so, and the panned, delayed guitar adds plenty of eerie menace to the track. It’s the vocals, with hardly any effort, that give ‘Super Role Model’ the who-gives-a-fuck vibe. It’s a sound that used to be at the forefront of Australian Alt Rock in the 90s, and it deserves a comeback to the fold.
