Wetlands bring slamming kiss-off with new single, 'You Left Your Empty Drink In My Car'
Sunshine Coast-Brisbane nu-grunge wünderkinds, Wetlands are back and slapping 2022 around the face with their fierce, catchy new single, ‘You Left Your Empty Drink In My Car’, which we are premiering on The Point today.
Don’t let the title fool you; this is not an ode to those who have left empty tinnies in the quartet’s vehicles. Vocalist/Guitarist Kaito, and Lead Guitarist Strazberg have teamed up on lyric duties on this new track to vent their frustrations with the egotistical and/or narcissistic nature of ex-friends and foes.
‘You Left Your Empty Drink In My Car’ is a flat-out alternative rock belter, kicking off with super-phasered guitar and slammed straight into a swingin’ rock groove. Kaito’s vocals have benefitted from the consistent gigging this four-piece have been doing, showing more control, maturity and grit. Strazberg’s fret-work and background screams lift an already driven track, with the Skinns on Drums and Bass keeping it all super-tight. There’s a pop-sensibility to the songwriting, with the track laden with catchy hooks. The next phase of Wetlands shows a band that has figured their sound, and now needs to capitalise on it.
Of the song, Kaito explains that it is about accepting people are who they are, and you shouldn’t spend your life trying to appease them. ‘One of the things we are most excited about with ‘...Empty Drink...’ is it’s the first song Strazberg and I have written together and it’s a new sound for us that we are hugely proud of.’ Following on from the success of their self-titled debut EP which saw them sharing stages with contemporaries BLUSSH, Walken and Whalehouse, Wetlands are fast becoming your new favourite band.
The new single will be out across all platforms on March 3rd. To celebrate, Wetlands will be bringing their unique unadulterated grunge sound to Tomcat in Brisbane on March 12th.
