PREMIERE - Brisbane's Lunchtime hit hard with epic brand new grunge single, 'Wait'
Brisbane’s heavy alt-rock kids, Lunchtime are now all grown up, celebrating six years together with their first single of 2022, the hard-hitting grunge epic, ‘Wait’, which we are premiering here on The Point ahead of its March 5th release.
‘Wait’ hits hard, with a wall of guitars that closes in on you faster than a trash compactor on the Death Star. There’s plenty of fuzz to be had, but they do not overwhelm the drums, which give little reprieve. The vocals give plenty of attitude to an overall slacker vibe, and like the guitars, are effectively layered up. It’s a killer track that, in honesty, should prick up the ears of the national youth broadcaster.
Described as one of Lunchtime’s most meaningful songs to date, the band have stated that, in essence, ‘Wait’ is a contemplation on grief.
“Grief in every form, ranging from death, to being in love with the idea of someone. It is also the sound of nostalgia mixed with an attitude of ‘no matter how many times you try to knock us down, we will always get back up,” they said.
Over their six-year career, the band (which formed in High School) have reformed three times, and have released an EP and four singles previously. The new, forthcoming EP, ‘They’re Just Being Friendly’ looks to stack up five strong tracks that have been mainstays in Lunchtime’s stage shows for the past two years.
The EP was completed earlier this year, working with two different studios (Red Door Studio, and VIA Studios) with engineer Timothy Wheaton.
Fitting in easily with the nu-grunge tones that Australia has been pumping out of late, like LOSER, WAAX, Tired Lion, and closer to home, Wetlands, Lunchtime heftily deliver 90s nostalgic tones with ease.
‘Wait’ is out on all digital streaming platforms on March 5th, but you can hear it ahead of its release right here.
