Brisbane's Honeychurch shows us what 'Normal Problems' are all about with epic new nerdy power pop anthem.

Brisbane-via-Townsville singer/songwriter, Honeychurch packs up his punk influences, and shoves them in to one huge-sounding new power-pop single, ‘Normal Problems’, which is out now.

‘Normal Problems’ comes across like Tim Freedman from The Whitlams deciding to randomly jam with the guys from Airbourne. As ridiculous as a description this is, it bloody well works. Honeychurch takes the ironic, and often dark, humour of Freedman, adds some massive horn sections, and super crunchy guitar (including the most cock-rock of guitar solos we’ve heard in a while). It’s unabashedly fun, bold, and while it employs rock cliches from the past, it comes across as a musical nudge & wink.

Having built his reputation in the sweaty PCYC shows of Townsville, Honeychurch relocated to Brisbane, and traded in the skinny jeans & vans of punk, for a more freer power pop.  It’s a style that shows of plenty of energy, with personal (yet relatable) lyrics, and blends manic self-indulgence, ironic humour and reflections on his own struggles with mental health, and modern anxieties.

Honeychurch is an artist that doesn’t know how to sit still, having already released a full length album (this year?!), and now pushes out ‘Normal Problems’, his relentless optimism is hard to ignore.

Check out ‘Normal Problems’, now streaming on all digital platforms (and also go check the album, ‘Groupchat’), particularly if you’re a fan of Ben Folds Five.
