PREMIERE - Gold Coast's Mermaid Waters let loose on latest rap/rock/grunge single, 'The Grudge'

Emerging from the suburban Gold Coast region, alt-rock duo Mermaid Waters have released a fierce and energetic new single, ‘The Grudge’; a rap-rock blast that unsubtly twists and turns through abrasive grooves in to synth-based breakdowns.

Following on from previous single, ‘Royalty’ (which was closer to alt-rock/grunge), ‘The Grudge’ cranks the aggression to 11 with stoner-grunge groove providing the bed for vitriolic rap-rock vocals, snaking its way to a sample and synth middle section, before bringing it all back for a hint of Morello-esque guitar scratching. It brings to mind the more political-rap-metal from the Testeagles.

Jem Cassar-Daley announces debut single, 'Letting Go' and Queensland Tour

Accompanying Jem will be special guest, Chloe Styler.

‘Letting Go’ boasts Jem’s confident vocal approach, with pillowy piano chords, acoustic strumming and a perfectly underbaked rhythm section that stays right in the pocket. It’s the pre-chorus that really grabs your attention, and at times borders on bringing on those musically-induced goosebumps.

It’s lo-fi indie-tinged emo with layers of bright and at times, lush guitars, drums that are not over-processed, and happy-sounding melancholic vocals. Melbourne's Lalchand takes us to dizzying alt-metal heights with new single, 'The View From Here'

Melbourne musical mastermind Lalchand has shared a soaring new single "The View From Here" which features Garrett Russell of Silent Planet and Liam Guinane of Reside. The single is the title track from forthcoming feature-filled EP, to be released Friday October 8.

‘The View From Here’ is both hefty and melodic, blending alternative emo rock, with prog-bordering-on-djent rhythmic tones. As much at home slotting along the likes of The Butterfly Effect/Dead Letter Circus as it would with more structurally intense acts like Tesseract, there’s plenty of epically high moments in the choruses, as well as the riff-heavy post-chorus sections that bring to mind earlier Karnivool material.

‘Die Alone’ employs lush strings and atmospheric keys from the get go, before launching into a thick barrage of beats and distortion. Hints of nu-metal, and heavier emo sounds blend in, with the emphatic chorus rolling in grit and angst. It’s a thick rollercoaster of a track that sees a band switch its dynamics with ease.
