Melbourne’s SILT have made a mark with their lush, luminous pop soundscapes, and the alt-pop trio have released another gorgeous single in ‘You Hate It’, ahead of the release of their highly-anticipated debut EP, ‘Contact High’ (out on October 1).

‘You Hate It’ is dreamy yet steady indie-pop, layered with strings, wet guitars, and Jess Polain’s vocals front and centre. A consistent, and bouncing, rhythm section drives the song, until the half-way mark, where the song switches, and a new poppy rhythm arrives, with slight, cute complexities.

Emerging in 2019, the SILT sound subtly melds mellow indie-rock foundations with glistening pop magnetism, showcased across their previous releases, including latest single ‘I Always Need A Break’, a grounding, incandescent track released earlier this year. Now, the female-fronted trio are giving us another compelling taste of what can be expected from their imminent debut EP with sweeping, high-ceilinged track ‘You Hate It’.

Known for bringing a brooding warmth into their songwriting, ‘You Hate It’ sees Jess recognise her need for space and boundaries in times of turmoil, stating: “I wrote this in a bit of a state. All the lyrics were written on a train home from work after I had spent the day stewing over a particular argument. Something that always seems to crop up in my songwriting is my need for space, and learning how to ask for it and set boundaries. This song is no exception. I have to say I am very proud of this one, especially the very direct, almost stream-of-consciousness lyrics in the bridge. The strings, arranged by the incredible Danna, really brought the drama of this song to life.”
