East Capri deliver epic third single, 'Danger To Myself' in lead up to EP release on Friday August 27.
Brisbane duo East Capri are on a roll, having released their third single ‘Danger To Myself’ in the lead up to their EP, ‘Wake n Repeat’ due out on Friday, August 27.
Following the turmoil of unhealthy coping mechanisms adopted after the passing of a loved one, ‘Danger To Myself’ adopts and expands on the heavy alternative soundscape East Capri have carved, utilising tight, hefty drums, dirty bass, layers of synths and bringing in some Vai-ish guitar licks in a tasty middle section.
It's been a successful journey so far for the Brisbane newcomers, who debuted their alternative heavy sound in June with "Wake n Repeat", the title track to their forthcoming EP of the same name produced and recorded by guitarist Jackson Deasy and mixed and mastered by Lance Prenc (Polaris, Alpha Wolf). "Liberate" came second and narrated the conflicting process of deciding to stick to a passion path or take the safe route curated by others. "Danger To Myself" follows the turmoil of unhealthy coping mechanisms adopted after the passing of a loved one and comes equipped with a music video by Third Eye Visuals.
"Danger To Myself" impressively found a home on Spotify's New Music Friday AU & NZ this morning as well as Rock Out. after making its debut on triple j Short. Fast. Loud earlier in the week. Guitarist and songwriter Jackson Deasy explained to Maniacs that: "this song follows the year after Eden's mother’s passing. Becoming self-aware of the destructive tendencies that were realised while coping with such a loss and how they effected the people around him."
"Eden didn't understand how damaging his coping mechanisms were becoming until after seeking help from his therapist after being urged by his brother. This created a lightbulb moment for Eden and helped him understand that he was in fact not okay despite thinking he was. A lot of the lyrics recite the intrusive thoughts and feelings built up when alone during this time."
Forming in regional Queensland, Eden Cartwright (vocals) and Jackson Deasy (guitar) make up East Capri, a product of shared musical interests and influences which in turn have built the foundations of the Brisbane duo. Forthcoming EP 'Wake n Repeat' shares a delicate side to the band that has culminated in an honest and cathartic release.
"This record shows a deep side of tragedy and pain, and through the writing process we really grew a strong bond not only as a band but as lifelong friends" explains Cartwright. "Writing and creating was the biggest factor in helping us cope through some seriously tough and isolating times."
‘Danger To Myself’ is out now, and the ‘Wake N Repeat’ EP is out this Friday, August 27.
