Hey Geronimo give warning of our 'Last Days' in latest genre-blurring single.
Brisbane’s Hey Geronimo blur genres with their latest self-produced innovative new single, ‘Last Days’; an infectious dark indie/electro rock track that explores the falling of an empire.
Merging heavy synths and samples with rock sensibilities, and borderline psychedelia-tinged vocals, the track allows strings and breakbeats to set the groove before a fully-fledged fuzzy musical slap to the face with the catchy chorus.
It brings to mind the mixing of rock and electronica in the late 90s with the likes of Arkana, or (fairly) more recently, Calling All Cars’ brilliant ‘Raise The People’ album.
Singer-Keyboardist Pluto Jonze describes the story behind ‘Last Days’:
“’Last Days’ is about what we’re living through. It feels inevitable now - we’re just partying on the deck of the Titanic. With climate change, a widening wealth gap and a mass distortion in our ability to critically think. America’s Empire (which we’re intrinsically tethered to) is imploding in slow-motion and it’s hard to look away. The Last Days of Rome are upon us.”
Debut record ‘Crashing Into the Sun’ was received warmly with strong support and glowing reviews from the likes of triple j, Spotify, Sydney Morning Herald and Rolling Stone Australia, including a performance on triple j’s esteemed ‘Like A Version’ segment. This followed on to their sophomore cut ‘CONTENT’, a concept album that deals with the bizarre future evolving in front of our eyes, accentuated by single ‘Bad Citizen’ which has racked up over 700K streams on Spotify.
Since their inception, Hey Geronimo have become a mainstay fixture on the Australian festival circuit with appearances at Big Day Out, Festival of the Sun, Homebake, The Big Pineapple Festival and Valley Fiesta. The band have also toured the country multiple times, selling out their own headline shows.
‘Last Days’ is available now on all streaming platforms.
