Brisbane's Bridget soothes with slinky synth-pop single, 'painkiller'
Brisbane’s new rising star of synth-pop, Bridget (O’Shannessy) busts out with her new release, ‘painkiller’, set to captivate hearts with its dark-pop anthemic stylings.
Bridget's musical journey has been nothing short of remarkable. With over a decade of experience in the music industry, she has graced the stage as the opening act for Gotye's The Basics and performed at prestigious events like London and Shanghai Fashion Weeks. Now, Bridget is ready to unleash her unique sound and heartfelt lyrics on the world with ‘painkiller’.
‘Painkiller’ is a slinky, rubbery, lights-dimmed burner of a track, slickly produced, that snakes its way through a late-night groove. It’s hard to believe there’s a country-pop background lurking behind the scenes, but perhaps from the CMC cocoon emerges an alt/synth pop butterfly with ‘painkiller’. Bridget’s vocals are breathy, yet precise, and you know deep down, there’s the ability to absolutely bust out diva-like. Bridget (and Danny) have brought to life a RnB-fused synth pop stunner that is simple in its execution, but layered with complexity and sass.
Bridget discuss how ‘painkiller’ came to be -
"I wrote the lyrics of the chorus on the weekend I turned 23, when I came to realise the heaviness that came with adulthood. The mistakes we make, the love we feel, the people we spend tIme with, they are all born from minuscule decisions that form us as people and create our futures. That’s so much to handle without some sort of IKEA handbook to follow, let alone a person. It’s so much and it’s so lonely,” she said.
Bridget's evolution as an artist has been a captivating journey. After winning the QUBE Effect 2022 award, she embarked on a path that led to the creation of ‘painkiller’, a song that showcases her distinct blend of dark-pop aesthetics and emotionally charged lyrics.
Bridget's recent collaboration with her brother and producer, Danny O'Shannessy, resulted in the stunning release of ‘Sydney Street’,a bold and catchy synth-pop track that has already garnered over 12,000 streams. ‘Sydney Street’ narrates the story of moving on from a toxic relationship and finding solace on the vibrant streets of Brisbane's New Farm. This track is just the beginning of Bridget's ascent in the music world, both in Australia and internationally.
With ‘painkiller’, Bridget continues to demonstrate her unwavering commitment to her craft and her ability to create music that resonates deeply with listeners. Her emotionally charged lyrics and enchanting melodies are sure to leave a lasting impression on fans old and new.
‘painkiller’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
