Pop-Chameleon, AYLA returns with electrifying pop-house banger, 'Fire and Wine'
AYLA, the ever enchanting pop-chameleon, has returned with a brand new single in ‘Fire and Wine’, an upbeat electronic take that comes bathed in nostalgia, growth and understanding.
Flexing her development as a songwriter and artist, ‘Fire and Wine’ is an intoxicating return from an artist taking full flight.
Alongside collaborator Sam Thomlinson (Oh My My, Bad Pony), AYLA keeps one eye on producing emotive pop, while packing the track with lyrical themes of young love, masterfully shifting between the dizzying heights of happiness and plunging lows of heartbreak.
‘Fire and Wine’ is galloping, dizzying pop-house brilliance with a dash of indie from an artist that continues to push their own boundaries and limits. AYLA has always had a knack for delivering romanticism with a balanced, yet quirky sense of both cynicism and curiosity. Though there is plenty of pop gloss on ‘Fire and Wine’, there’s also a tonne of authenticity and organic appeal; AYLA has always struck true. A massive song from one of Australia’s truly unique indie/pop artists.
Speaking about the songwriting process, AYLA shares:
"After some Covid-canceled writing trips, Sam and I tried an online co-write. 'Fire and Wine' came together quickly when Sam sent through a synth idea that gave me a feeling of nostalgia. It shaped into a story of navigating growing up and heartbreak. The verses explore youthful friendships, where everything is new and charged with emotion (in the first, I was remembering my best friend picking me up from home when I’d gotten drunk on red wine and didn’t want my parents to know). The second verse is based on a romantic relationship, specifically one where we slept in all the time and watching too much tv.
"Both friendships and love break your heart, but the chorus breaks into this anthemic place of uplifting togetherness, through all the hardship, which I love. Ultimately, it’s just a really fun pop song! I can’t wait to share it and play it live!"
The beat on ‘Fire and Wine’ is electrifying, holding time and building momentum for the lustre of the complex melody and ease of AYLA's vocal, an instrument that is fast becoming her trademark superpower. With a dazzling ability to find her way around a song, she intertwines her oft-confronting yet relatable lyrics and *that* voice into the mix, something she has been achieving since she leapt onto the radio with debut single ‘Wish I Was’ when she was barely out of high school.
With two EP releases, a string of high rotation singles, headline shows, support slots, festival appearances and high profile collaborations (Peking Duk’s Reuben Styles, Ball Park Music’s Sam Cromack), AYLA has captured minds and won hearts around the nation. It all leads her to this place, poised on the edge of something truly astonishing. But more on that before you know it...
The release comes ahead of AYLA's appearance next weekend at Caloundra Music Festival, 30 Sep - 1 Oct.
‘Fire and Wine’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
