Melbourne's NTH RD unleash heaviest track to date in the pummelling new single, 'Teeth'

Melbourne’s alt metal outfit, NTH RD unleash on their latest, and heaviest song to date, ‘Teeth’, which is out now, along with an accompanying music video.

Produced, mixed, and mastered by Christopher Vernon (Belle Haven, Bloom, Tapestry), ‘Teeth’ showcases a new side in the exploration of NTH RD’s sound, taking notes from metalcore and post-hardcore heavyweights inlcuding Alpha Wolf, Counterparts and Loathe.

Guttural, and at times terrifying in the most fun way, ‘Teeth’ is abrasive, pummelling, yet holds its own groove with a tasty dose of breakdowns. If you’re going to approach a devastating subject such as dementia (and its effects on the sufferer as well as their loved ones), then NTH RD have captured the frustration, madness and sorrow, wrapped it up in sawtoothed guitars and bludgeoning drums, and tied off with balanced vocal duplicity. Alt metal, shmalt shmetal - NTH RD obliterate with ‘Teeth’.

‘Teeth’ explores both sides of dementia; the experience of the one with the disease and the experiences of loved ones and those affected by the repercussions of the disease. "Dementia is a disease that a  few members of our band have had to deal with," says the band.

"We felt that the chaotic and disorienting nature of this song would lend well to exploring our experiences with it through the lyrical content of the song. It was a very difficult topic to write about and articulate, but we feel as though it was a topic we wanted to address in our music at a certain point, and this song felt like the perfect time to explore it.”

The accompanying music video, streaming via YouTube Channel BVTV, was directed by Martin Wood of Interior Digital (Bad/Love, Tapestry, The Motion Below). The clip has an overall gloomy aesthetic that echos the sentiments of the theme, and depicts the story of a person slowly consumed by flowers, a metaphor for the gradual deterioration of the mind through the various stages of dementia.

NTH RD will share their mammoth new release at upcoming shows supporting American rock band Against The Current (US) with Brisbane lads Days Like These at the end of September. The band will play their hometown of Melbourne on September 30 and Belgrave on October 1, tickets on sale now via Destroy All Lines.

Each of NTH RD’s releases this year have built upon the foundations laid on their debut EP, 'Panic', released last June. ‘Panic’ outlined the different stages of a panic attack, exhibiting the band's determination and willingness to explore difficult topics. I Watched You Fade Away followed in November and tackled similar themes, further establishing a sound packed with anthemic arena ready riffs, huge choruses, atmospheric soundscapes and dynamic, crushing breakdowns.

Despite only launching in February 2022, the band have already racked up over 160,000 Spotify streams and counting, and have played alongside some of Australia's  finest up and coming alternative acts including ATLVS, Tapestry, Harroway, 51st Avenue and more as well as just completing a co-headline tour alongside The Motion Below.

‘Teeth’ is available now on all streaming platforms.
