The Hunter Express unveil latest biting, dark alt country meets indie groove single, 'Easier'
Melbourne musical dreamers, The Hunter Express follow on from previous single, ‘Over Everything’ with the biting new single, ‘Easier’ which is out now.
The new track is the latest offering from their upcoming EP release, ‘Gold Fades’, set for release on Oct 2. The EP was recorded with producer Gormie (Angie McMahon, Stella Mozgawa).
‘Easier’ has all the bite, uneasiness, and groove of ‘With Teeth’-era Nine Inch Nails, with a 70s lo-fi twist. The dark drums and bass strut beneath unsettling synths, laying the bed for The Hunter Express to deliver an almost Lou Reed-like vocal take — sedated, yet vicious. It’s a complete left-turn from the alt-country tones of ‘Over Everything’, yet somehow the two feel like they belong to the same world.
“Easier is my song to the broken. It's my nod to a John Wick kind of feeling. The months after releasing our third album in 2019, I found it difficult to write new music. Writing new music is what I love most. Even in the rough times I somehow find joy. Then life hits and someone close to me went through the most unimaginable experience.
I put music aside, spending most of my energy supporting and loving that person and their little family. Easier. Throughout the months, I'd just say out loud ‘Easier, easier for you, why can't it be any easier?’ The words would come and go. The song and chorus was forming almost by itself. I like those songs the most, the ones you don't need to force. Because they come from a space that's real.” - The Hunter Express.
The Hunter Express recently released their sublime single called ‘Over Everything’, the first offering from their upcoming EP release. ‘Over Everything’ received airplay on the likes of Triple J (Country Club), Triple J Unearthed (Slow Burn) and was added to rotation on ABC Country.
New single ‘Easier’ is available on all major online streaming platforms.
