Eyes of Bel reveals stripped back and self aware single, 'Bygones Will Be Bygones', and announces 'End of an Era' EP
Naarm/Melbourne-based songwriter and producer, Eyes of Bel strips back to her most self-aware on latest single ‘Bygones Will Be Bygones’, which provides the next look at her upcoming EP, ‘End of an Era’ (due out November 13).
After giving audiences the first taste of the EP with recent single, ‘Melt, Eyes of Bel is ready to unveil each layer of her 7 track journey shaped by healing and truth.
Written as an invitation to stop performing and actually let go, ‘Bygones Will Be Bygones’ trades noise for stillness, landing somewhere between confession and release. Finding freedom in the release, the track marks the sound of an artist choosing peace over pretending. “A slow exhale after holding your breath too long” - Eyes of Bel.
‘Bygones Will Be Bygones’ sees Eyes of Bel sink into deep, pulsing bass, chilled beats and layer upon layer of airy, dark synths, draining away the fears and memories that have been harboured within before finally letting them go in a hazy, late-night delivery. An unnerving vocal flutter loops throughout, lending the track an almost old-world quality; vulnerable, heart-aching torch songs drifting from a crackling gramophone. There’s an odd warmth to it, but one that never quite manages to shake the uneasiness lurking beneath.
Dark and atmospheric electro-pop, ‘Bygones Will Be Bygones’ feels like a repeated attempt to convince a directed audience — and perhaps herself — that it’s time to let go. The message may have been dismissed time and time again, but beneath the haze, the pulse and the beautifully uneasy production, Eyes of Bel makes it clear: this time, we hear it loud and clear.
The upcoming EP, ‘End of an Era’ explores love, loss, sexual identity, survival, hope and change. Created alongside Cheekbone, with other songs created with Robert Downie and Tony Buchen, each of the seven songs was written during a period of personal upheaval, calling into question identity and self and what might remain in letting go of an old self. “None of the songs exist in a single emotional state.
