Melbourne-based rockers Unbroken Expanse load up on Celtic punk rock epicness to deliver a killer new single (and music video for) ‘Bootstrap Billy’.
You have to love a song that’s based on a fictional character, and often, this particular genre of rock (punk rock with Celtic flavour) does it the best. You can smell the beer, and the sweat with this raucous sing along.
Gold Coast’s The Vultures take their indie-rock sounds, and make them disco ready to honour the end of summer with their new single, ‘Conversations’.
‘Conversations’ is airy, but tight. That guitar/bass/drum groove is locked in so tight, which lets the atmospheric synths float around like a hazy cloud of smoke in an 80s nightclub.

Read MoreIn the lead up to the release of their debut album later this month, Sydney’s fuzzed-out post-punk trio, oWo have offered-up the first single (and title track), ‘Super Role Model’.
‘Super Role Model’ is a scuzzy, fuzzed-out swagger, with a bass line that sounds like it’s looking for a fight. The drums have a slacker feel, but aggressively so, and the panned, delayed guitar adds plenty of eerie menace to the track. It’s the vocals, with hardly any effort, that give ‘Super Role Model’ the who-gives-a-fuck vibe. It’s a sound that used to be at the forefront of Australian Alt Rock in the 90s, and it deserves a comeback to the fold.

‘Lotusland’ adopts synth and drum’n’bass in to their sound, before hitting with an ominous riff and face-melting screams from vocalist Rory Cuthell. There’s elements of nu-metal sneaking in with pitch-shifted vocals, creepy keys, and one hell of a fat groove, before a dirty breakdown sledgehammers its way in to the track. It’s dark, menacing and brings the devil horns straight up.
Read MoreSydney five-piece indie outfit, Buffalo Paradise suck in all the summery surf rock vibes, wrap them in a neat package, and serve them up as their sophomore single, ‘Promises’.
‘Promises’ has this weird blend of 80s-era Mental As Anything-meets-The Kooks sound happening; it manages to sound current (like a lot of vibing surf-indie-rock) while simultaneously sounding nostalgically Australian. It’s a sunset soundtrack on the beach, with bright guitars, smooth bass, pop drums, and organs coming together to lay the bed for the accent-blending vocal delivery that just works.

‘Scattered’ hits hard straight away, with vocalist Tom Kiely purging so much aggression and emotion from the get-go, while shifting in to a more melodic mode for the chorus. The riffing bounces between gut-punches to intricate soaring, with bigger breakdowns than a crypto-bro defending Bitcoin.
