Brisbane's Germinator take you on a fuzz-loaded psychedelic journey on debut self-titled album
Brisbane’s emerging fuzzlords, Germinator have released their debut self-titled album - a collection of 10 songs drenched in fuzz, and one that vividly captures the band’s sonic essence in this moment.
Emerging from a bedroom during the peak of the pandemic, Germinator seized the opportunity to support Polish Club and Adam Newling on the South Queensland leg of their tour. Driven by frustration with previous projects, Hayden Smit sought to inject something fresh into the Brisbane rock scene, threading the needle between hard rock, garage, psychedelia, and punk, and letting Germinator’s DIY spirit shine through.
With this self-titled debut release, Germinator give you no prior warning for the waves of 60s phaser-drenched psychedelia, heavily stitched together with a sea of 90s fuzz tones, slap-backed double-up vocals, and thickened beats. It’s uncertain if any fuzz boxes were hurt in the process of this recording, but by god they were given a work out. The album is a beautifully weird balance between free love and nihilism, with a heavy dose of nostalgia.
Speaking on the creation of the album, vocalist/guitarist Hayden Smit admits that ‘having a truly DIY approach helped cement the sound’.
“The album is a document of this sound and this moment of time. I wanted it to be immediate, fuzzy, personal and relentless in spirit.”
To celebrate the release of their debut album Germinator will be putting on a huge launch show with friends Verum and Imperial Zest at Tomcat October 6th.
Germinator’s self-tilted album is available on all major streaming platforms and physically on Vinyl. Visit Germinator’s Bandcamp page for more information about merch.
