PREMIERE - Christian Patey unveils next single of upcoming EP with gorgeous alt-folk team up with Phoebe Rose on 'Crystal Dust'

Sunshine Coast-based artist and producer, Christian Patey has unveiled the next in the line of single from his upcoming acoustic EP, with the latest track, ‘Crystal Dust’.

Teaming up with vocalist Phoebe Rose, the new single explores the erosion of human creativity, spiritual clarity, and human connection in an age dominated by distractions.

‘Crystal Dust’ paints a surreal landscape where past regrets and distant hopes collide. The track makes the most of Phoebe Rose’s haunting harmonies, which thread through Christian’s sparse, atmospheric production, and creates a soundscape that feels intimate and other-worldly.

Drawing your attention inward with gorgeously layered alt-folk, Crystal Dust is texturally rich while wrapped in understated simplicity. Christian Patey’s subtle, lower vocal delivery lays a calming foundation, allowing Phoebe Rose’s country-tinged vibrato to effortlessly soar above. Pay close attention to the cascading pre-chorus — lush and immersive, it feels like tumbling gently down a grassy hillside before the chorus lifts you into the light. Crystal Dust is beautifully constructed, organic, and warm — the kind of song that halts you mid-thought, inviting quiet reflection on moments past and possibilities ahead.

The metaphor of “crystal dust” suggests that, much like a fogged crystal ball, our ability to see the future or find spiritual guidance is clouded, not by some external force, but by our own obsession with petty things (like screens, phones, and constant distractions). The reference to "silenced to the mountains" captures how people who speak out or try to preserve authenticity are often drowned out by the noise of modern life. The line "we pass our last tear" symbolises the loss of human connection, creativity, and emotional presence, while the river flowing between fear offers a hopeful image of returning to something more natural, the collective human experience that eventually dissolves back into the universe.

Recorded and produced by Christian Patey at his Tiny House Records on the Sunshine Coast, ‘Crystal Dust’ further adds to Christian’s impressive repertoire, which has seen him producing and playing alternative pop music (with similarities to Chet Faker and Rufus), having supported Boo Seeka, Thundamentals, Tash Sultana, Tora and more.

With sold-out shows and Triple J attention, Christian has also worked with Jimmy2sox (one half of Flight Facilities), landed a vocal sample on Rae Sremmurd’s album ‘Sr3mm (alongside The Weeknd, Pharrell, Travis Scott), and worked on PARTYNEXTDOOR’s album PX3, with credits alongside Drake.

Christian is currently finishing off his latest acoustic EP, and will be hitting the road in June/July for a bunch of shows in support of ‘Crystal Dust’.

‘Crystal Dust’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
