Veratie open up 'The Door' to alt-rock Nu-Baroque for the dark creatures on latest single
South East Queensland alt-rock/nu-metal outfit, Veratie, return with a new single - their fifth from the upcoming debut album - in ‘The Door’, which is out today.
Packed with evocative melodic and rap vocals overlaid on an intricate soundscape of synth, heavy guitars and relentless rhythm, ‘The Door’ further showcases Veratie’s dark, moody, and metallic tones which have seen them support such names as The Halo Effect (Europe), Beyond the Black (Europe), Redhook, Devilskin (New Zealand), Lagerstein, Krave and more.
Veratie’s upcoming debut album, ‘IN//HUMAN’ is a concept album that thematically revolves around the intersection of humanity, society, machine and divine.
Veratie’s “The Door” doesn’t just open—it beckons, pulling you through a corridor lined with warping synth arpeggios and sharpened, distorted guitars that wouldn’t feel out of place on a Muse record. Vocalist Sarah adds an operatic, moody presence that calls to mind Lacuna Coil, layering melody and shadow in equal measure. There’s a subtle playfulness under the gloom, but just as you start to get comfortable, the track erupts—nu-metal breakdowns, harmonic squeals, and weighty riffs slapping you back into reality. “The Door” feels like it’s forever ascending, building tension until it breaks, making it more than just an alt-rock or nu-metal track. This is Nu-Baroque for the dark creatures—grand, ominous, and strangely inviting.
Front woman and lead songwriter Sarah describes their upcoming track, ‘The Door’ as an “An emotional gut-punch. It’s not pretty, but it’s real”. ‘The Door’ is Veratie’s hardest hitting song yet, marking a new level of raw authenticity in their songwriting. Taking over three years to write due to its emotional weight, this song highlights the band’s commitment to deliver no-holds-barred truth in their music.
The lyrics centre around a locked door, a metaphor for the barrier between a child and their parent. The passionate, harmony-rich vocals, countered by punchy rap, powerfully delivers themes of misunderstanding, generational trauma and hope. Combined with the tension created by moody synth and down tuned guitars, ‘The Door’ will move you to your core.
Amassing almost 20K Spotify streams on their previous releases, Veratie are a rising force in the Australian heavy music scene.
‘The Door’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
