PREMIERE - Meiia pours on syrupy but barbed nu-soul single, 'Boys Like You'
Cairns-based artist, Meiia - the soul/pop sister you never knew you needed - comes swinging into our lives to knock some sense into us with latest single, ‘Boys Like You’, which is out now.
A track drenched in soul influence, emotionally-charged, and full of all the words you wished you could have yelled at your ex (and you know he probably deserved it), ‘Boys Like You’ adds feel-good energy, and clever production to sink deep under your skin.
If you’re writing a nu-soul track aimed squarely at an ex, teaming up with EMEREE on production is exactly the move — and that’s what Meiia does on ‘Boys Like You’. Thick with tone and attitude, the chorus drips like maple syrup over poisoned pancakes: sweet, smooth, but deadly. Meiia’s vocals glide effortlessly, wrapped in gated harmonies, rubbery bass, and keys that mirror her phrasing with sly intent. Australia’s nu-soul scene is rising fast, and ‘Boys Like You’ puts Meiia firmly in its centre.
After reaching out to and teaming up with producer EMEREE, this duo proved to be a dangerously good match, blending retro grooves with unapologetic attitude. While in a Sydney studio working on something else (wink, wink), "Boys Like You" began as a voice memo and unfolded in just one day. They continued to work remotely before it was sent off to be mixed & mastered by Melbourne based engineer, Alex Warren McCarthy.
Inspired by the likes of Lawrence, Zinadelphia, and Sammy Rae & The Friends, Meiia is gearing up to slap the funk/soul scene in the face with the release of ‘Boys Like You’.
A magnetic performer, and chaos merchant in the best way, Meiia’s music is part group therapy, part brutal honesty, and 100% unforgettable.
‘Boys Like You’ is out now on all streaming platforms, so dig in.
