Meanjin/Brisbane's Serendipiti goes the 'Distance' with new folk-pop single
Meanjin/Brisbane folk-pop faery, Serendipiti releases her latest single, ‘Distance’, the first chapter leading up to her EP, ‘Idealist’ - a diary-like body of work that steps through each stage of long-distance love and loss.
Accompanying the new track is a music video, which was made as a QUBE Effect finalist.
‘Distance’ twists time signatures and lush cinematic builds to celebrate the romantic (if somewhat unrealistic) notion of surrendering to the hope of giving in to insatiable hope and beginning a long-distance situationship.
On ‘Distance’, Serendipiti toys with the listener, brilliantly baiting with whimsical indie folk with theatrical flair. While Serendipiti delivers an Amanda Palmer-ish lyrical bent, the track teases introductions of instrumental layering, before shifting gear at the half-way mark, the strings becoming ultra playful, the vocals hit a poetic climax, before coming to a halt, and a gentle coda ensues. ‘Distance’ is lush, spacious and playful - the kind of indie folk that envelopes you, demanding repeat listens.
Having discovered her musical magic at the age of eight (having written her first song to self-soothe anxiety over a phantom spider bite), Serendipiti has been weaving charming hand-spun folk-pop, sprinkled with pixie dust and infused with heart.
Inspired by Lizzie Mcalpine and Phoebe Go with a touch of Coldplay energy, she interlaces intimate narratives with alternatively tuned guitar and lush cinematic crescendos. Since her celebrated 2023 debut release, Serendipiti has played sold-out shows internationally (from Sofar to Woodfordia's Small Halls Fest), placed in the Grand Finals of Listen up Songwriting comp, received critical acclaim (Livewire, JJJ Unearthed etc) and Aus-wide radio play (Double J, ABC, 4ZZZ, FBI etc).
The captivating ‘Distance’ is out now on all streaming platforms, and keep an eye out for the debut EP, ‘Idealist’.
