Brisbane's Christos fires up slick, lovesick pop in new single, 'Sparks Fly'
Brisbane singer/songwriter Christos burrows into a more meaningful connection two people share and the moment in which they feel it, in his latest single, ‘Sparks Fly’.
The artist has already had a strong start to the year with his first release of 2023, ‘still a kid’ being premiered on Triple J, Christos delivers ‘Sparks Fly’ - a relatable tune about doing everything in your power to win someone’s love over, telling the story of taking that special someone far away and seeing sparks fly in the sky, indicating you’re exactly where you’re meant to be with this person.
Christos shares parts of his own experience with true love and the unimaginably intense feeling of finding the one; more than a surface level connection, but rather a soul-tie, making past flings and pain insignificant.
‘Sparks Fly’ is glossy, acoustic-driven indie-pop, super-cushioned by layers of reverb and atmospheric pads that support the slick beats and Christos’ tightrope-walk between breathy melodic vocals and hip-pop rhymes. Clocking in at just under 2 minutes, Christos crams a lot in, in a short time frame, which can feel like you’re being short-changed, but when you’re getting straight to the point of the track, pouring your heart out about new (or everlasting) love, the result is like having the cold shower on full blast after an absolutely swelter of a day - you’re gonna get wet, and it makes you damn happy.
Christos speaks on how the track came together and the inspiration behind it.
“Sparks Fly represents me journeying through my emotions of finding that one person that I’d do anything for. It’s laying it all out on the table for someone and trying to show that I’m the right one for them.”
The artist continues, “A lot of my previous music reflects on the hurt and struggle that comes with the end of a relationship, however with this song I’ve taken a different approach. “Sparks Fly” highlights the true feeling of love and the extent you will travel to show someone you love them. It’s the type of song I want people to just be cruising to, windows down and you’re either with that special person or maybe just thinking about them.”
It’s an impactful song displaying the very niche sound Christos has created for his artistry in 2023. ‘Sparks Fly’ is much deeper than the lovesick tracks we’ve all heard the artist over the years.
