Brisbane's Gabriel Bishop releases insanely catchy, flirty summer jam in 'Off My Mind'
Brisbane-based solo artist, Gabriel Bishop sets his sights on 2023 with his latest single, ‘Off My Mind’, which is out now.
Having spent four years working on his craft as an independent producer, the Gabriel Bishop monicker is the solo project of producer Harry Wells, who combines his love of early 2000s hip-hop and RnB with his roots as a folk singer-songwriter.
Gabriel Bishop creates music that is lyrically focused, musically complex, and irresistibly catchy, using his wide range of influences to make a sound that is diverse, yet unmistakably his own.
‘Off My Mind’ hones in on the modern pop/hip-hop blend, taking the lyrical flow and complexities of current hip-hop, and blending with insanely catchy, bouncy pop elements. While it comes across as a simple two and a half minute pop track, peel back the layers and there is a lot happening, from the multiple layers of synths, and Charlie Puth-ish production tricks (little nuances using sound grabs, from a single finger click, to a ticking clock). In ‘Off My Mind’, Gabriel Bishop has packaged up an infectiously danceable track that bubbles along effortlessly. Bonus points for sneaking in the Gen X ‘Say Anything’ reference.
Combining groovy laid-back drums and floaty keys, the verses of ‘Off My Mind’ tell the story of forbidden romance in the 21st century. This juxtaposes the in-your-face bass-centric chorus that hits the message home harder with every kick drum. A unique blend of D’angelo’s lyrical suave and Charlie Puth’s crisp production, ‘Off My Mind’ is Effortlessly cool, unabashedly flirty, and devastatingly charming. This is a track that pulls the listener into its world and won't let them go till they are dancing along.
‘Off My Mind’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
