Sunshine Coast's Malia Stirling shines through in new single, 'Kaleidoscope'
Sunshine Coast folk artist, Malia Stirling heads into the new year with a full heart and a catalogue of new music, starting with the new single, ‘Kaleidoscope’, which is out today.
The release of ‘Kaleidoscope’ started with the intention to capture love in its purest of forms. To represent how terrifyingly beautiful it is and how it takes much more bravery than anyone ever expects. Written, recorded and produced by, Malia Stirling, ‘Kaleidoscope’ has become a project beyond what she could have imagined.
‘Kaleidoscope’ is richly-layered folk, bathed in love and light, with Malia’s well-honed ability to portray romantic notions vocally and lyrically truly shining through. ‘Kaleidoscope’ bypasses the sappiness, with the track being steeped in the innocence of the meeting between two. Malia manages to make the song float with the added colours of strings, piano and other atmospheric synths to the mix, that, tied together with soft layers of vocal underpinnings all boost Malia’s sweetened delivery.
With her distinct, angelic voice and poetic lyrics, Malia has captured hearts across Queensland and New South Wales over the past 6 years. Recently in 2022 and 2023, Malia has shared her songs in support of internationally known artists such as; The Fabulous Caprettos, Vanessa Amorosi, Thirsty Merc and Shane Howard of Goanna alongside her partner, Josh Maynard. Together, the pair have found a life on the road, falling in love with Australia and sharing their stories along the way. Following the release of ‘Fire’ in 2022, Malia has her sights set on sharing several singles throughout 2023, kicking it off with ‘Kaleidoscope’.
With the award-winning Amy Harman of Time Flies By Videography and the undeniable chemistry between local musicians, Jason Daniels and Hannah Olivia, ‘Kaleidoscope’ has transcended visions Malia had writing the song a little over two years ago in her bedroom. It has become a beautiful collaboration of local artists that immerses you in all the love.
In the beginning of 2022, Malia had reached out to local videographer, Amy Harman of ‘Time Flies By Videography’ to collaborate in creating a film clip that visually showcased all the love that Malia had written about in ‘Kaleidoscope’. At this stage, the song was awaiting the final touches as well as mixing and mastering by the very talented, Nick Muir. Malia Stirling quotes “From the first draft I had sent Amy, she has been the biggest support and she goes above and beyond”, describing her experience while working with Harman. In the early stages of this project they had gotten together to discuss how best to portray the atmosphere created in the song. Before long, they had reached the idea of following a couple in their journey as they learn about each other; turning from strangers to lovers. A story that bathes in the beauty of destiny and adventure.
This is where Jason Daniels and Hannah Olivia enter the picture. Although they are by no means strangers ( after tying the knot in 2021) their undeniable chemistry and ability to exude love was perfect for ‘Kaleidoscope’. The two give a beautiful performance showcasing the initial wonders of connection and the comfort of finding a home in one another.
‘Kaleidoscope’ is out now on all streaming platforms, as well as the accompanying music video.
