Bobby Alu returns with nod to lovers rock reggae with 'Ready For Your Love'
Australian Roots royalty, Bobby Alu is back with his latest single, ‘Ready For Your Love’, out today, with the reggae and soul-infused track uniting Alu’s joyous harmonies with feel-good rhythm and stripped-back production.
‘Ready For Your Love’ embodies the reggae style ‘lovers rock’ popular in Jamaica in the late 70’s by artists like Dennis Brown, Gregory Isaacs, Horace Andy, Alton Ellis, and John Holt. The track is a grand declaration of effortless love, proclaiming: You turned up, caused a rush / now you are giving me more than enough.
Bobby Alu takes all the magic ingredients from Lovers Rock reggae stylings, smooth harmonies, killer one drop beat, a subtle bubbling on the organ, gently bobbing bass line, and guitars that switch between simple skanks and a play on the bass, all blended with lo-fi touches that make for roots magic on ‘Ready For Your Love’. Without being cheesy, the track is a sonic romantic tryst, painting the picture of slow-dancing with the sun setting behind palm trees, while waves gently lap at the shoreline. Bliss sonified.
Speaking of the new single, Bobby Alu expresses ‘Ready For Your Love’ paints a picture of one’s aim to please in a romantic sense.
"Imagine you’re a bird doing everything you can to impress your queen - build a beautiful nest, pump out your chest, sing your heart out," said Alu.
"The band and I love reggae from the 70's and 80's. This song was never planned. We were at the studio working on some other tracks. After dinner we weren’t quite ready to finish. I showed them a chorus idea and we all jumped in bouncing ideas off one another.
"I had recently had a conversation with a stranger about how they were looking for love desperately and this exchange inspired the lyrics. Hours went by and we left that night with a new track in the bag. Spontaneous creative moments like this are some of my absolute favourite times in the studio. Time goes and you find your flow.”
Bobby had a 2023 of epic proportions, touring relentlessly across the world, including industry showcases at Folk Alliance in the US and Reeperbahn in Germany. The Sunsets (With You) tour saw Bobby perform 12 dates around the US followed by 13 dates across Europe. This was hot off the heels of a 49-date, 20 country European tour supporting Xavier Rudd which wrapped up in late-2022. He was also signed to international booking agents including Madison House (North America), Rola Music (Germany, Switzerland, Austria), and Fibra Entertainment (Brazil).
Bobby recently performed at Bluesfest 2023 and has supported the likes of Xavier Rudd, John Butler Trio, and Trevor Hall across the world. His previous studio album Flow was nominated as AIR's Best Blues & Roots album 2020, debuted at #1 in the AIR Independent Labels Chart, and was named Double J Feature album. Bobby's warmth and positivity has generated legions of loyal fans, with 500,000 Spotify monthly listeners, and regular support on ABC and Double J, and support across Spotify editorials including New Music Friday, and Reggae Nation.
The new single, ‘Ready For Your Love’ from Bobby Alu is out now on all streaming platforms.
