Sunshine Coast genre-twisters, DUB ZOO step into Hip Hop/Reggae fusion on new single, 'Pocketful' (featuring 1Love)

Sunshine Coast-based Prog-Dub pioneers DUB ZOO return with another hypnotic, genre-twisting take on their soulful new single, ‘Pocketful’ which features guest vocals from Arrested Development’s 1Love.

This latest release is the title track from their upcoming EP release, due out later this year.

On ‘Pocketful’, DUB ZOO slip easily between dub-fusion trippiness, hypnotic world music and old-school hip hop, stitching it all together into something that feels both playful and deeply locked-in. The DUB ZOO core trio skank, flit and jazz run throughout the track, darting and weaving, almost duelling at times, but always landing in the pocket, as Ben Goldstein and Queen Lizzie move fluidly around the guest verses from Arrested Development’s 1Love. It’s a twisted, feel-good dub hip-hop journey that never sits still for long, constantly shifting shape without ever losing its groove.

Discussing the track, DUB ZOO explain that ‘Pocketful’ is their first, but definitely not last foray into Hip Hop/Reggae fusion.

“”We grew up on the music of Public Enemy and Run DMC and of course Arrested Development, and we’ve often brought rap MC’s in to feature in our live shows, so it was quite surreal and a lot of fun to hang out with the AD crew and collaborate on this track!” - DUB ZOO

DUB ZOO effortlessly blend multiple genres to create their signature sound, fusing elements of Hip Hop and Neo Soul into their already unique dancefloor shaking sonic. The bands live set features of collective of these artists and a selection of the bands new release music as well as some dynamic improvised dance floor filling jams.

New single ‘Pocketful’ is available on all major online stores and streaming services.
