Dub Reggae maestros Kingfisha return with first new single in a decade with 'Highly Recommended'
Brisbane’s dub reggae maestros, the internationally-acclaimed Kingfisha have released their first new music in a decade, bringing their smooth, super-fat grooves back to the airwaves with the brand new single, ‘Highly Recommended’ (which will also release as a limited edition 7” vinyl).
Driven by a solid low-end, timeless skank and unmistakable lead vocal that has defined Kingfisha’s music for decades, ‘Highly Recommended’ delivers a fresh dose of the band’s signature sound. Deep, yet melodic and built for movement, this new track will hit just as hard on a festival stage as it does through a club’s sound system.
In true Kingfisha fashion, ‘Highly Recommended’ is wickedly heavy-handed on the deep bass and solid dub groove, balanced beautifully by 8-bit blips, synth trickery, melodica magic and those smooth-as-silk Anthony Forrest vocals. Hypnotically head-nodding and guaranteed to induce a full-body sway, this long-overdue deep dub reggae cut from one of Australia’s best in the game feels like a natural continuation of the sound they established on 2016’s Offered It Up. A decade away clearly hasn't dulled Kingfisha's production chops, with every bass wobble, digital blip and melodic flourish sitting exactly where it needs to. And yes, it definitely comes ‘Highly Recommended’.
Kingfisha head out on the road for a run of dates taking in Byron Bay, Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Cairns, and Earth Frequency Festival at Woodfordia.
Kingfisha have carved out a special place in Australia’s independent music scene, earning a reputation for their well-crafted live performances and distinctive blend of dub, reggae and electronic music. From Europe to Africa, their live shows have enchanted audiences, while at home in Australia, they are celebrated as bass-heavy roof-raisers, winning Triple J Unearthed Roots back in the day.
In previous years Kingfisha have performed at coveted festivals around the world such as Reggae Sun Ska Festival (France), Rototom Sunsplash (Spain), Boomtown Fair (UK), IOMMA (Reunion Island), Ostróda Reggae Festival (Poland), BluesFest (Byron Bay), Earth Frequency Festival (SEQld), Rainbow Serpent Festival (VIC), WOMADelaide, Woodford Folk Festival, Wide Open Spaces (Alice Springs), Queenscliff Music Festival and Peak Festival (Perisher).
