Brisbane indie punks, Haters have returned, fresh from a 24-date Canadian tour, and bring home a present in the form of their latest single, ‘Young Ones’.

Following on from previous single, ‘Quit My Job’, the new powerful and emotionally-charged track explores the themes of lost innocence, the passage of time, and the consequences of destructive choices.

Along with the new single, Haters announce their upcoming debut album, ‘non-violent’ AND will be featuring at this year’s BIGSOUND Festival in early September.

Inspired by the fragile nature of youth and the haunting realities of adulthood, Haters takes listeners on a gut punching journey through the highs and lows of life. ‘Young Ones’ serves as a sombre reflection on the loss of vibrant souls and the heartbreaking consequences of life's darker paths. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of regret, mourning, and the longing to hold onto brighter days.

While ‘Young Ones’ shows off its indie/punk skin like a heavily patched battle vest, at its core beats a heart bleeding New Wave nostalgia. It harks back to a time where less is more; two guitars panned, bass and drums down the line, melodic, shouty choruses, and just a bit of spit and polish. Haters deliver a burst of high-energy melancholia and vitriol, with big beats and a touch of distortion, and catchy as fuck.

Musically, ‘Young Ones’ embodies the spirit of indie, punk, and garage rock, showcasing Haters signature sound. The band's distinctive blend of raw energy and introspective song writing creates a captivating sonic experience that resonates deeply with listeners.

In addition to their highly anticipated single and record, it is worth mentioning that this remarkable musical endeavour was recorded and produced at High Wattage Cottage studios in Canada by Scott Middleton (Cancer Bats)

Lead vocalist Jairay shares the personal inspiration behind ‘Young Ones’.

“This song was born out of a profound loss and the realisation that we must cherish the moments of brightness in our lives," they explain.

"It's a call to appreciate the innocence of youth and to confront the consequences of our actions. 'Young Ones’ invites us to reflect on the fragility of our existence and to embrace the joys while acknowledging the pains."

The forthcoming album ‘non-violent’ of which ‘Young Ones’ is a significant part, revolves around themes of mental health, love, loss, and the complexities of human emotions. It confronts these issues head-on, without glorification, aiming to create awareness and foster understanding.

Taking inspiration from punk and garage acts before them, Haters are filled with power, rage and aggression, but it is directed towards fighting for love and a community that survives despite the infinite challenges of simply existing. They live in direct opposition of surface level music and deliver with full intention songs about drug addiction, suicide, loss, living with a severe mental health condition and finding yourself a group of friends in a lonely world.
