Brisbane/Meanjin's Lounge unveil catchy power-pop debut single, 'I Liked Her'
Brisbane/Meanjin alt-rock outfit, Lounge have come screaming in to the scene with a classic, catchy debut single in ‘I Liked Her’; a track that takes a head-on look at the often manic first few days of a brand new ‘box fresh’ relationship.
Joining forces with powerhouse producer Brock Weston, (Bugs, Beddy Rays, Dusty, Brixton Alley) Lounge spend a few days in a Brisbane based studio recording what would become their debut single 'Liked her'. The song pays homage to the band's undeniable 00's rock influences whilst exuding a freshness that you could only find in 2022.
Incredibly hooky, ‘I Liked Her’ is high energy alt-rock power-pop with a dash of indie. Coming off like a classy blend between Vampire Weekend and Kisschasey, Oskar Campbell has crafted an infectious, clever guitar-driven pop song, with one of the most fun pre-choruses we’ve heard in some time. Having powerhouse Mikaela Swan on the kit propels the track into the stratosphere. ‘I Liked Her’ has whet our appetite, and now we want the main course, Lounge.
As frontman/guitarist Oskar Campbell delves deeper into the meaning behind ‘I Liked Her’, claiming that it is a shallow pop song about first world problems.
“The track encompasses the first alcohol-fuelled moments of connection, the unmistakable skin hunger, and the endless possibilities lying next to you, with the embarrassing moments of ludicrous emotional overreach, and then the sudden realisation that far from being the ‘love of your life’, this fling was actually a big mistake. About what you would expect from a 22-year-old,” he said.
'Lounge are the Brisbane based Alt-rock band trading in super smart, ultra direct, no-nonsense power pop. Frontman/Guitarist Oskar Campbell`s songs openly reference his guitar Idols from the 90s and 00s but they are joyously infused with songwriters desire to explore uncharted territory and keep things sounding fresh. Lounge songs serve up big guitars, driving drums, and artful vocals generously sprinkled with surprising bursts of bitter/sweet pop sugar.
Wasting no time to connect with the Brisbane music scene, Lounge have found their way onto stages supporting the likes of Carla Geneve, Hard Aches & Toxic Fox. With an eagerness to turn curious heads and share their music with the local scensters, this band has a lot more to come.
