PREMIERE - Poison Oak warn not to get stuck on 'Replay' with latest indie punk burst

Premiering ahead of its April 4 release right here on The Point Music News, Townsville’s indie/punk rockers Poison Oak are offering a sneak of their new single, ‘Replay’, a song that delves into the (what feels like) never-ending loop of daily life monotony.

‘Replay’ taps into the pulse of early-2000s Australian alt-rock, blending the driving energy of pop-punk with the melodic sensibilities of indie rock. Angular guitars cut through a tightly interwoven rhythm section, laying the groundwork for a track that feels both urgent and effortlessly catchy. There’s no forced attitude here—just a raw, hook-laden anthem that begs to be sung at full volume. With Replay, Poison Oak proves they’ve got a firm grip on the art of crafting indie rock that sticks.

Talking on the meaning behind the new single, the band dive into the drudgery of modern life repetition.

"Replay is about burnout, routine, and the slow realisation that time keeps moving—even when you feel like you’re standing still. The song explores the repetition and dullness of modern life, particularly the daily grind of work and social media the way people fall into mindless routines, feeling disconnected despite constant digital interaction. Even if you’re winning the rat race, you’re still stuck in traffic, moving nowhere fast. Replay is a reflection of modern life’s suffocating predictability and a wake-up call for those who feel like they’re running in place.”

Poison Oak have spent the last several years stealing hearts and minds with their electrifying live show, playing countless shows around the country, supporting the likes of Tones and I and gracing the stage at Tropic Sounds Festival.

2024 saw the release of single and music video ‘Wasted’, which was the first offering from their forthcoming sophomore LP - recorded with Brock Weston (Bugs, Beddy Rays, Dune Rats), with the release gaining plenty of positive coverage. The band then went on to support Australian heavyweights DZ Deathrays in October. This was quickly followed up by the widely received single, ‘Tell Me’.

Poison Oak’s new single, ‘Replay’ drops on all streaming platforms on April 4, but you can hear it here first on The Point Music News.
