Sky Eater dive into live soul/dub sensibilities on mesmerising new single, 'Falling'
Byron Hinterland/Bundjalung Country’s Mermaid Trip-Hop Dub purveyors, Sky Eater have delivered the next taste of their upcoming album, with the release of their latest single ‘Falling’.
Deviating from their usual live electronica format to explore angles of analogue acoustic aesthetics, Sky Eater delve into live soul/dub sensibilities on this latest offering.
Featuring horn players Peter Hunt (Kooii) and Stu Currie (Fyah Walk), ‘Falling’ is a feel-good track with a positive message that appeals to reggae and soul listeners. This is the second single to be released from their upcoming album "SUBmerged", which comes out in September 2023.
‘Falling’ is a slight step away from Sky Eater’s catalogue, adopting acoustic guitar loops and deeb double bass tones, and more organic drums to give a smooth jazz meets trip hop sound, with Chelsea Skyeater channelling her inner Sade in parts. The single melds back into a more familiar dub groove from Sky Eater, coupled with boosted horns, and spacey layers underneath. It’s a hypnotising, romanticising, mystifying dub soul journey doused in bass-y goodness.
Sky Eater are known for taking their audience on an uplifting journey that is full of soul and jazz moments, blending with an artillery of bass, beats, vocals and live dubs.
Following a jam packed six months of heavy touring throughout the UK, Western Australia, Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria, Sky Eater are keeping it local for the next couple of months with a run of house concerts and focus on more intimate shows.
Stay tuned for their upcoming album, ‘SUBmerged’ due later this year, but in the meantime, ‘Falling’ is out now and streaming on all platforms.
