Ama makes striking debut with introspective take on online relationships with 'Love Online'
From the Western Sydney area, an emerging indie/alt pop artist has emerged in 21 year-old Ama, with the release of her debut single, ‘Love Online’; a catch alt-pop track that recites the product of countless genuine conversations that shed a light on the bleak reality of trying to find ‘love online’.
Ama embraces her Sri-Lankan roots on the debut single, with the self-confessed emotional wreck-turned songwriter making an impact with her incredible storytelling, assured vocals, and introspective lyricism.
‘Love Online’ strikes true, as both an RnB-tinged indie/alt pop burner, and witty observational take on Gen Z relationships, and the discontent at the disconnect created in the realms of cyberspace. Ama blends a solid groove and bounce with confident lyricism and vocal delivery. The more organic guitar tones contrasting with the colder, stark synth stabs becoming a metaphor for the struggle for human interaction, yet having to use online tools to achieve this, topped off with the use of text keystrokes as alternative hi hats. In ‘Love Online’, Ama has carved out an introspective, alt pop banger with a touch of spice.
Of the track, Ama explains that its candid lyricism paints a picture of a personal but universal post-breakup experience of using doing apps as coping mechanism.
“‘Love Online’ explores the familiar struggle of online dating and the many complications associated with trying to connect with people through a screen.”
Guitar in hand, Ama’s honest takes on relationships in every light, host an emotional but fresh perspective. Influenced by the likes of Alexander 23, Gracie Abrams & Jeremy Zucker, Ama’s music bites with a maturity that allows listeners to explore the vulnerability of her words, connect with their innermost feelings, and relate to the raw honesty in her thought provoking story-telling.
Beginning her performance career at the age of 17, Ama is familiar with life as a musician, gigging full-time across Sydney. Her strong work-ethic paired with her passion for creating music has caught the attention of audiences and industry alike. While still emerging, she has many outstanding achievements under her belt, including graduating from Australia’s prestigious JMC Academy, and placing 3rd in the ‘Discover Talent’ Competition among contestants from all over NSW.
Currently, Ama continues to work on writing authentic material whilst widening her network of fellow creatives through the efforts of social media to further develop her artistry.
