Seph Cove returns after rediscovery with uplifting new single, 'Higher Now'

Reinvention and rediscovery is sometimes a necessary journey, and its one that Melbourne-born songwriter Seph Cove (aka Ben Steiner) is well familiar with. Having spent a year relearning himself away from the city and overseas, Seph Cove returns in 2023 with a brand new single from his next body of work in ‘Higher Now’.

Reinvigorated, and utilising new tricks, there is an expanded self-awareness that has been brought to light. Seph brought an earthiness to the ethereal folk that defined his debut release, his next work is ready to take it a step further The first single from his as yet unnamed third EP, ‘Higher Now’ is symbolic of Seph letting go of his inner demons and he invites listeners to do the same.

In ‘Higher Now’, Seph Cove ups the pace discovered in his previously acclaimed EP (the sublime ‘Unsafe Passage’ from 2022), and adopts a more energetic and uplifting take. Initially working from an instantly comforting two-chord bouncing shift, all earthly and warm, the track progresses from folk rock stylings to a more heavenly anthemic take. The last third of the track splits open the clouds hanging over the last recorded efforts, lets the sun rays in, and lifts you up to the next level.

Following a sold-out launch, supporting Budjerah, and signing a publishing deal with the Raleigh Music Group, Seph Cove explored his country, the world and his mind. His new EP has travelled the world to be created. Spanning production, mixing and mastering from Australia to Berlin and the US, Seph is truly a global affair. His previous work has been produced, mixed and mastered by longtime collaborators and friends, Tim Bettinson of Vancouver Sleep Clinic and Luke Jenkins.

Seph Cove has amassed over 2.5 million streams. Debut single ‘Stay’ had editorial success on Spotify’s New Music Friday US, while breakout single ‘Falling’ had editorial success landing on Spotify's New Music Friday AU/NZ. Seph has had further industry support for his latest release, with radio play from triple j’s Roots N’ All. Tastemakers MILKY and The Partae also came out in support of his latest single ‘Sirens’. While the second single from EP Unsafe Passage was featured internationally on Variance and Alfitude as well as receiving airplay on triple j's Home and Hosed.

At ease on the stage, Seph has played a variety of sold-out hometown shows as the headliner and pulled crowds to post-lockdown intimate shows at The Little Poet Bookstore, the Otherside as well as packing out the Fitzroy Workers club in a successful return to Melbourne.

Alongside the release of Higher Now, Seph looks forward to spending time further connecting with his supporters, community, and ever-growing international audience. Ben continues to strive for more so that he can open his world to more people and create strong and personal community connections.

We’re more than eager for the next full body of work from Seph Cove, but for now, take in the new single, ‘Higher Now’ via all streaming platforms.
