Lounge go two for two with killer new alt-pop single, 'You Instead'
Brisbane/Meanjin’s Lounge add another notch to their tally of powerful, playful alt-rock/pop tracks, with the addition of the brand new single, ‘You Instead’.
Once again teaming up with producer Brock Weston (Beddy Rays, Dusty, Brixton Alley, drummer for Bugs), the new single reaffirms Lounge’s dedication to chunky riffs, pretty guitars, and super-sized melodies.
Lounge already blew our minds with the punchy power-pop debut single, ‘I Liked Her’, and now levelled up with follow-up, ‘You Instead’. The band have channelled Brisbane peers Custard with this track, taking cues with the cheeky guitar leads and melodies, teaming up with the bass to bounce playfully over pop-grunge beats. There’s enough grit and crunch in the guitars to add bite to the quirky cuteness of ‘You Instead’, with vocalist/guitarist Oskar Campbell finding a knack for writing about hopeless romanticism. This is two from two for the Brisbane outfit.
Oskar goes on to explain the thought process behind the new single, discussing the trials and tribulations of young love in a modern world.
“‘You Instead’ explores the rampant FOMO messing with the head of a hapless modern lover as they fail to grasp the extremely casual terms of a ‘swipe right’ Fuck-Buddy,” he said.
In their short time together, Lounge have started to develop a solid live reputation through gigging in the SE Qld corner, with choice supports with Carla Geneve, Hard Aches, and Toxic Fox, while also attracting attention from Australia’s New Music Media, including community radio, Triple J Unearthed, and various blogs.
Make sure you catch Lounge at their next show (follow their socials for more info) to understand why they are generating such a buzz.
‘You Instead’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
