Songwriter and Storyteller, Darcy Kate releases stunning debut album, 'Wanderer'

Sunshine Coast songwriter and storyteller, Darcy Kate has released her debut full length album, ‘Wanderer’. Packed full of short tales like an anthology, the album features stories of heartbreak, and of inspiration, all tied up in a melodious ribbon.

‘Wanderer’ manages to encapsulate both innocence and wisdom, whether by the bold, epic six-minute ‘Blue Cascade’ (which is heavy on the slow blues & soul), or shifting gears in to tracks like ‘Oh Bingo’ and the uplifting ‘Dorothy’ (the last single before the album released). Darcy channels some Moody Blues in to ‘Georgia Rose’, before flipping in to folk-pop mode in ‘Goodbye’. The dark horse track, and easily one of the standouts is the middle cut, ‘Hold’, which brings in a little Mumford-ish hand-clapping folk, and uplifting messages of pushing forward. Darcy manages to sweep sweetness into the tracks, whether melancholic or uplifting, keeping the listener hooked.

With heavy influence from Bruce Springsteen, Paul Kelly, Jewel and John Williamson, some of the biggest hitters when it comes to story-telling in music, Darcy has herself, honed this skill to bring a story to life, without bloating the tracks, particularly in earlier singles, ‘Last Train to Frankston’ (of which the backstory is a heartbreaker), and ‘Run Away’. Overall, ‘Wanderer’ is a strong debut album from an artist only just hitting her stride.

Produced and mixed by STONEWAX (Ziggy Alberts, Dear Doonan) at the acclaimed Yama Nui Studios, and mastered by Paul Blakey at 12th and Vine, ‘Wanderer’ showcases a plethora of genres under Darcy Kate’s umbrella, from soul, pop, folk and indie, and displays an artist humble in their art.

‘Wanderer’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
