PREMIERE - Collidastate unveil indie/folk-rock debut single, 'Out of Time'
Sunshine Coast-meets-Adelaide duo, Collidastate have released their debut single, ‘Out of Time’, a strong, contemporary folk-rock track that imbibes familiar Australian sounds.
The duo of James Padley and Graham Nisbet - life-long mates - pieced together Collidastate in a post-pandemic world, with the tracks self-recorded/produced at Graham’s home studio, with the pair collaborating between their Queensland and South Australia homes.
What resulted is a collection of indie & rock-inspired tracks that will form their debut EP (due in July), with the first taste of which being ‘Out of Time’
‘Out of Time’ brings to mind a mix quintessential Australian storytelling and contemporary rock, with some Paul Kelly-isms and a healthy dose of Powderfinger shining through. The modern-folkish guitars, clean Fender lead lines that sit just under the vocal melody, simple, unobtrusive-but-smooth bass lines, and drums that shift and meld to support the melody, more than just be a backbone; it’s all there. The build to the chorus is expected, but regardless, still hits right in the feels when the vocal harmonies come together for that one big note. It’s the soundtrack to a bleary-eyed dawn surf check, just as the sun peers over breakers.
The culmination of a life-long mateship, perseverance, and just never doubting that anything is possible helps to mould the sound that Collidastate present; its music resonating with anyone who has experienced hard times, and found themselves searching for answers in the the darkness - like they did.
Collidastate will release their second single at the end of June/beginning of July, before the full unveiling of their debut EP, ‘Resilience’.
‘Out of Time’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
