Sunshine Coast's CaelWhip releases bouncing, feel good hip hop track, 'I Don't Wanna Work'
Sunshine Coast hip-hop artists, CaelWhip returns with his first single for 2022 in the ode to shunning the 9-5 slog, ‘I Don’t Wanna Work’, which is out now.
Linked with US producer eeryskies, CaelWhip’s seamless flow and captivating hook glides across a bouncy, feel good instrumental.
‘I Don’t Wanna Work’ employs a more organic approach, with a more ‘raw’ drum loop with a dry, gated snare, live bass that has a hint of grit, and old school jazz chords on the guitar. This technique allows for more air to let the rhymes flow without obstruction. There’s some sly nods to Australian hip hop contemporaries such as Seth Sentry, and Muph & Putonic; ones that have never shied away from the ockerisms and natural instrumentation.
CaelWhip approaches the track with notion of chasing your dream, and not conforming to the normality of a daily job, as well as the modern-day needs that are associated with the concept and image of wealth and happiness.
As CaelWhip explains, ‘I Down’ Wanna Work’ takes influence and inspiration from local and national artists from different genres
“I’ve grown up on “golden era” Aussie Hip Hop, so inspired by exactly that, I wanted to make an old school meets new school style track, with a catchy hook, on a more ‘real’ instrumental, while still maintaining the more aggressive, punchier modern day verses,” he said.
To celebrate the release of the new single, CaelWhip will be supporting the legendary DRAPHT on his Sunshine Coast leg of Drapht’s 2022 Australian tour, playing Solbar on June 23.
‘I Don’t Wanna Work’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
