Brisbane/Meanjin's Lounge explore the grim realities of adulthood in new single, 'Dumb'
Brisbane/Meanjin’s purveyors of alt rock and other things, Lounge, return once again with a glorious display of hooky alt pop in grunge clothing with latest single, ‘Dumb’ which is out now.
The four-piece have quickly gained a reputation for delivering catchy tracks, and have become a non-guilty pleasure in the local scene, with their previous single ‘You Instead’ being added to a number of key Spotify Rock playlists, as well as grabbing the attention of Violent Soho’s James Tidswell, having making the song ‘Catch Of The Day’ on label Domestic La La’s heavily followed playlist, ‘Tuna Tuesday’.
It’s three for three, with ‘Dumb’ once again showing off main man Oskar Campbell’s uncanny knack for carving creatively catchy choruses that, despite the layers of distorted guitars, and rock drum moments, are some of the biggest hidden pop songs to come out of Brisbane; and it comes across as effortless. There’s no forcing of extra hidden tracks or using special production tracks. It’s pure, unadulterated pop rock fun, with some indie attitude, and if you haven’t jumped on to the Lounge wagon yet, you best hop aboard now.
Expanding on the meaning behind ‘Dumb’, Oskar says the track explores the grim realisation of adulting.
‘Dumb’ explores the nagging anxiety that visits most early Twenty Somethings when they wake up one day to the shocking realisation that they are nothing special... no super powers, no rock star life, no higher calling, just an ex-teen with money problems and bad posture. Such is Life Amigos! “
Once again teaming up with producer Brock Weston, ‘Dumb’ is yet another taste to come from Lounge’s upcoming debut EP, due later this year.
To celebrate the launch of ‘Dumb’, Lounge will be headlining at The Bearded Lady (Brisbane) on October 9th.
‘Dumb’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
