Katanak returns to blow us away with summery alt pop/indie rock single, 'Honeycomb and Hurricane'

Brisbane’s Katanak returns to bring some warmth to the cooler months with his latest new indie rock/alt pop anthem, ‘Honeycomb and Hurricane’.

Infused with the essence of summer, this track embodies sun-soaked days and breezy nights, with infectious beats and irresistible melodies. ‘Honeycomb and Hurricane’ promises to be the perfect addition to your playlist, whether you're embarking on a road trip or hosting a BBQ with friends.

With his laid-back vocals and infectious melody, 'Honeycomb and Hurricane' captures that summer feeling, radiating the warmth of the sun with every note. Reminiscent of acts like 5 Seconds of Summer, The Driver Era, and New Hope Club, Katanak effortlessly blends elements of pop and indie rock, creating a sound that resonates with listeners across genres and comfortably straddles genre's grey area of pop meets indie rock.

If there’s one thing we’ve learned from Katanak is that he is insanely crafty at putting together super slick, ridiculously catchy alt pop / indie rock blends. ‘Honeycomb and Hurricane’ is summery and optimistic, without treading into cheesy territory. Unabashedly pop beats, and simple progression, but with clever layering which brings a tonne of complexity to the track - and that’s the key to ‘Honeycomb and Hurricane’s appeal. On the surface it’s all glossy alt pop/indie, but it is far deeper than that.

'Honeycomb and Hurricane’ is the first taste of what’s coming up on Katanak's upcoming Debut EP and you’ll want to dive right in. The Brisbane based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist has worked with an incredible team on this one. Produced by Katanak himself, recorded at The Plutonium with Aria winner Aidan Hogg's (G Flip, Jaguar Jonze, Hope D) deft mixing touches, Katanak once again shows his ability to switch up genres and jolt his listeners into paying attention. The electro pop elements blend well with Katanak’s natural indie rock vibe and shows his wiliness to explore new sonic territories.

2023 was a busy time for Dylan Cattanach AKA Katanak. Fresh off playing FIFA Fan Festival, a Queensland tour, collaborating with some of Australia's most highly respected emerging and established artists (Quan Yeomans (Regurgitator) and Pete Murray to name a few) and working towards the release of his debut EP, Katanak plans to keep up the pace in 2024.

With five more songs set for release after ‘Honeycomb and Hurricane’ this next chapter for Katanak is going to be super exciting.

With plays on major stations including Triple J Unearthed, Double J, ABC Radio, BBC Introducing Radio Solent (UK), Amazing Radio (both UK & US) among others, Sunday’s video clip added to rotation on MTV Upload and collecting praise from online street press, Katanak’s definitely one to watch in 2024.

'Honeycomb and Hurricane’ is available now on all major streaming platforms.
