My Chérie explores new horizons and old questions on epic, etherial indie single, 'Life is'

Inspired by an eye-opening three-month solo adventure across Europe, Adelaide-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist My Chérie has released her latest single, ‘Life is’.

Written on a 30-hour flight home, the track encapsulates the raw emotions, moments of solitude, and deep reflections gathered on her travels.

Clocking in at just under three minutes, “Life Is” doesn’t waste a second reaching for the epic. My Chérie conjures something grand and cinematic with modest indie instrumentation — guitar, bass, drums — woven through with glistening synth strings. There's a sense of restraint in the tools, but not in the delivery. Vocally, My Chérie lands somewhere between Ayla’s ethereal intimacy and Kate Bush’s theatrical flourish, commanding the track’s emotional arc with finesse.

It’s the kind of songwriting and performance that makes your own world feel suddenly enormous — or maybe small — like we’re all just drifting specks sharing a fleeting moment. “Life Is” is beautifully dizzying in its scope, intimate yet unbound.

‘Life is’ was born from a transformative journey—one that saw My Chérie not just play shows but immerse herself in the world. Living out of hostels, sharing spaces with strangers, and absorbing the stories of people from all walks of life, she found herself reflecting on the universal struggles that bind us—uncertainty, nostalgia, loneliness, fleeting joy, and the search for meaning.

“People all over the world carry the same weight on their shoulders. Not fully knowing why we’re here, worrying about the future, holding onto the past, searching for connection. I met people I may never see again, but their stories changed me. I wrote Life is in a moment of clarity on my flight home—it all just poured out,” shares My Chérie.

A sonic shift for the artist, ‘Life is’ sees My Chérie dive deeper into rich, introspective lyricism and atmospheric production, inspired by the music that soundtracked her travels. The song captures the feeling of being untethered yet profoundly connected—an anthem for wanderers, dreamers, and anyone who has ever sought something more.

My Chérie’s ability to blend storytelling with ethereal soundscapes has made her a standout force in the Australian indie scene, with past releases earning national airplay and critical acclaim. With ‘Life is’, she once again proves her artistry is as boundless as the experiences that shape it.

‘Life is’ is streaming now on all digital platforms.
