PREMIERE - Locian guides through a Jungian-journey of self-discovery in dream-like debut album, 'Fear, Reflections & Shades of Time'
Sydney-based artist, producer and now author, Locian redefines the boundaries of musical and literary artistry with the release of his debut album, ‘Fears, Reflections & Shades of Time’, which is complemented by an immersive companion book.
The album, which is a nine-track exploration of raw emotion and sonic experimentation, will be available on Bandcamp, Youtube, and Locian’s website exclusively. Each track is a meticulously-crafted composition, weaving together elements of alternative rock, trip-hop, electronica and indie, crafting an intricate tapestry of electronic rhythms, powerful vocals, and haunting melodies. Locian’s dynamic vocal performance adds a liberating and euphoric dimension, inviting the audience to experience a spectrum of emotions as each song unfolds its own narrative solely through its instrumentation.
In tandem with the musical release, Locian unveils a companion book that delves even deeper into the album’s themes. Drawing inspiration from Carl Jung’s The Red Book and his own experiences with active imagination, Locian has crafted a narrative that mirrors his personal odyssey. The book follows a protagonist—loosely based on Locian’s own journey—as they traverse the depths of their subconscious, encountering gods, archetypes, and mythological figures along the way. Structured around the timeless arc of the Hero’s Journey, the collection of short stories expands upon the album’s motifs of shedding limiting subconscious beliefs and embracing transformation. While the album offers an evocative auditory journey, the book enriches the experience by providing literary depth and context, allowing fans to engage with the underlying narrative on multiple sensory levels.
In ‘Fears, Reflections & Shades of Time’, Locian crafts a deeply introspective, Jungian journey of self-discovery, unfolding in a dream-like state. The accompanying book enriches this experience, with the narrative arc mirroring an alchemical transformation of the soul. Each track on the album, paired with its corresponding chapter, feels like a ritualistic step in a rite of passage — from confronting fears and desires to unraveling illusions and seeking wisdom.
Sonically, Locian blends the brooding ambience of Faithless, Massive Attack, and Depeche Mode with the expansive, atmospheric qualities of Radiohead and Pink Floyd. This fusion propels the listener through the rabbit hole of the unconscious, where mythological themes — drawn from Greek mythology — become personal symbols in Locian's own odyssey.
‘Fears, Reflections & Shades of Time’ is a concept album that’s both immersive and introspective, requiring multiple listens to fully appreciate its depth and unravel the layers of the journey. It's heavy on imagery yet spatial in its tonality, creating an experience that invites you to light a candle in a dark room, sink into the moment, and let the music guide you through an exploration of the self.
Locian’s dual release is more than just an album and a book—it is an invitation to pause, reflect, and rediscover the beauty of inner transformation. Whether experienced together or independently, these works promise to resonate deeply, offering moments of clarity and a renewed connection with one’s inner self.
