Australian rock icon, Perth’s Abbe May returns with a brilliantly ferocious, playfully anthemic new single in ‘BIG PU$$Y ENERGY’, which is also the first taste of her upcoming sixth studio album.

The single, also known as ‘BPE’ is a gritty 90s alt-rock style tune, characterised by its confident and cheeky attitude, as well as its moody, fuzzed-out guitar riffs. It carries the spirit of a self-assured affirmation, and acts as a reminder to advocate for, as well as to actively show love and care to oneself:

“BPE is really about having your own back and not taking any shit. It’s taken me a long time to get to this point, where I actually DO like myself. It’s a lot nicer in my head now BPE is running through it.”  - ABBE MAY

‘BIG PU$$Y ENERGY’ has Abbe May channelling her inner Liz Phair, energising and encouraging self-empowerment through supercharged fuzz, and brilliantly wacky guitar solos Edwyn Collins would be proud of. Packed full of sass and swagger, ‘BIG PU$$Y ENERGY’ is an insanely catchy husky-voiced, blues-tinged alt rock explosion, and further proves there’s always room for cowbell in modern rock n roll.

On the track and aforementioned album to follow, Abbe May expressed that she felt the desire to make “a big riff heavy rock and roll record”  in the wake of the COVID pandemic, where she inevitably took some time away from the usual fun and chaos of the touring lifestyle:

“I got a bit lost for a while until I started to get really passionate about guitar playing and tone crafting again. It’s been really fun working with Matt Gio. Watching him craft tones has been akin to sitting in a masterclass. I am really interested in having as much fun with music as possible while developing my skills.”  - ABBE MAY

Produced by Matt Gio (Troye Sivan, San Cisco, Birds of Tokyo, Rudimental) and mastered by Grammy Award winner William Bowden (Dope Lemon, Empire Of The Sun, Gotye, Holy Holy), ‘BPE’ is set to be followed by a single launch show in Fremantle this June. With over 3.4 million streams across her catalogue on Spotify, and having previously graced the stages of music festivals like Big Day Out and Meredith, as well as boasting past opening slots for the likes of Neneh Cherry, The Preatures, The Black Keys, Midnight Oil, Adalita, Killing Heidi, You Am I and MANY more, Abbe May’s live performance is one you surely will not want to miss.

‘BIG PU$$Y ENERGY’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
