Rockhamption Riot Grrrl revivalists, Vipersnatch unveil seething, pummelling new single, 'SLUT'

Darumbal/Rockhampton Riot Grrrl revivalists ViperSnatch hit HARD with their latest single, ‘SLUT’, which takes solid aim at patriarchal behaviour.

The new track is ‘the distillation of rage at a lifetime of being dismissed, diminished and degraded for the crime of existing as a woman. It’s a cry from every woman who has ever been spoken over by a man, been judged for expressing their sexuality, or bitten their tongue to keep the peace.”

‘SLUT’ boasts some of the gnarliest fuzz tones this side of alt rock, with ViperSnatch out-heavy-ing some of their metal contemporaries. Anti-patriarchal rage seethes through every note on this track, present in every thumping beat, every scraped bass string, every guitar chord saturated in distortion, with vocals that would make Babes in Toyland’s Kat Bjelland or L7’s Suzi Gardner beam with pride. ‘SLUT’ is absolutely pummelling, melodically enraged, damn-the-man intensity.

In a message to their fans, ViperSnatch says “SLUT is dedicated to all femmes and queer folk who’ve ever been treated like shit, we see you and hear you. The song is about women not existing to be palatable to men, about refusing to be constrained.”

‘SLUT is the follow up release to ViperSnatch’s genre-bending track, ‘Witchcraft, Baby’, which dropped in January and was met with positive reviews from the alt-rock community.

Featuring the ferocity of the musical trio of Lily, Riley and Kailee, ViperSnatch are characterised by powerful, break-your-heart- vocals over punk inspired chord progressions; agile, visceral drumming and expressive, provocative bass playing.

Formed in 2018 in Central Queensland, Australia, on Darumbal land, ViperSnatch brings a female perspective to the local alternative music scene. ViperSnatch are a “…brilliant three piece that are creating unique but incredibly well-rounded music.”

Dive headfirst into the fuzz-fuelled intensity of ‘SLUT’, which is streaming now on all platforms.
