Charlie Lane offers up romantically enigmatic new indie-pop single, 'Dance With You'
Naarm/Melbourne indie-pop artist, Charlie Lane follows the success of previous single, ‘Gold Drop’ with her latest effort, the romantically enigmatic ‘Dance With You’.
The second taste of Charlie’s upcoming debut album, Dance With You’ is a delicate track, with heavy synth and catchy chorus, disguised as slow-beat pop, but shifts gear to an upbeat indie-dance sound.
Taking influence from indie darlings, The National, Kate Nash, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and more, Dance With You is for fans of Maps (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), Fake Empire (The National), with a modern, uniquely relatable Charlie Lane twist, exploring the ideas of rejection, understanding attraction and nerves.
‘Dance With You’ is wistful indie alt-pop, dripping in 00’s nostalgia, with a guitar line that merges both melancholy and hope. Charlie Lane (channelling her inner Karen O), manages to vocally, and lyrically, capture the essence of romantic self-doubt, while at the same time become her own cheer squad to conquer those insecurities. At its core ‘Dance With You’ is a sunny song, draped in grey.
Talking about the influence of the song, Charlie says: “‘Dance With You’ was really a way for me to subtly open up as a Queer woman through song. It’s also about those times when you really like someone, in this case a girl, but your insides are just churning. I guess, the over-thinking of the rejection that hasn't happened yet”.
Having built a name playing indie venues across Naarm, with a strong collection of singles to her name, Charlie Lane has a new found voice with this new single, saying: “It feels really exhilarating to be releasing my second single off the album, but particularly 'Dance With You’. I directly sing this song as though I’m singing toward a female, and I’m really glad I have finally opened up more in my songs about being a Queer woman. I feel really proud of this song and where it’s going to go.”.
Along with the audio offering, ‘Dance With You’ has a video release, giving you a live vibe of a Charlie Lane show.
‘Dance With You’ could slip into your indie discovery playlist, soundtrack your awkward night out with a new crush and friends, set the scene for a teen angst film or fit in with your early 2000’s indie favs.
‘Dance With You’, Charlie Lane is available on all streaming platforms now.
