Alexia Parenzee debuts stunning, soul-stirring EP, 'Retrospect'.
Western Australian award-winning singer/songwriter Alexia Parenzee stuns with her debut EP, ‘Retrospect’ - a collection of five tracks that unfolds with tender words on the closing of friendships, ageing into grey hair and inner-wisdom, and feeling a deep sense of connection to the land on which we live.
Taking influence from a decade of intrepid travels, and written over the course of the past few years, ‘Retrospect’ boasts a depth of songwriting and vocal prowess from Alexia Parenzee.
In ‘Retrospect’, Alexia has culminated an eclectic anthology of tracks that showcase a diverse soundscape of influence, but these are all tied together by a blanket of soul-fused roots. The whole EP is smoother than whipped butter dripping off a hot stack of pancakes, yet there’s an element of rawness, particular through the completely honest, and stunning, vocal delivery of Alexia, which gives hints of early Corrine Bailey Rae. It’s a soul-stirring, candlelit soundtrack to times spent reminiscing and appreciating life’s wonders.
It’s a release that explores the seasons of change in human relationships, and boasts a self-awareness that comes from many hours of people-watching, and reflection, while traveling on public transport systems.
Recorded - in part - at the world-class Sundown Studios Perth, with engineering by the award-winning Elliot Smith, with the remainder of the EP recorded and finessed by Paul Frances Wood (Tiny Music Recordings in Fremantle), who undertook production and mixing duties for the release.
This EP is the accumulation of Alexia Parenzee and her band’s finest work, who together have spent the best part of 2 years re-working the songs to ensure the longevity of the tracks.
Instrumentation produced by Parenzee’s 4-piece band - drum work by Rickie Glegg, melodic bass lines by Rhyce Elliott, lead guitar from Elias Harun and keys by James Softly.
The effortlessly timeless debut EP from Alexia Parenzee, ‘Retrospect’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
