TUSHAR brings bright breezy indie surf pop on sophomore EP, 'Feels Like A Start'
TUSHAR returns with his sophomore EP, ‘Feels Like A Start’, delivering a feel-good fusion of surf indie pop and indie rock that brings more of his bouncy, mood-lifting sounds. The Kaurna Land/Adelaide - Naarm/Melbourne artist draws from personal experiences to create music that’s as playful as it is heartfelt.
The catchy focus single, ‘Tonight’ encapsulates the awkward charm of those late-night tipsy calls to loved ones.
‘Tonight’ blends nostalgia with lively melodies, making it a track that’s both danceable and touching. Built on jangly guitar riffs and TUSHAR’s expressive, airy vocals, the song taps into an irresistible rhythm that evokes joy and laughter. Inspired by acts like Two Door Cinema Club, Wallows, and Dayglow, TUSHAR has crafted a sound that combines dreamy synthesisers, acoustic guitars, and polished production for a modern indie vibe that’s fresh and timeless.
Previous singles off the EP, including ‘Bloodshot Eyes’, ‘Peaches and Wine’, and the title track ‘Feels Like a Start’, have already gained national airplay, cementing TUSHAR’s status as one to watch. Recently, he had the honour of supporting Ben Lee at his SA shows, adding to the buzz surrounding his catchy, undeniable earworms.
Breezy, bright, and brimming with charm, TUSHAR’s sophomore EP ‘Feels Like A Start’ flows effortlessly, delivering a collection of optimistic indie-pop gems that linger long after the music fades. Steeped in coastal good-time vibes, the EP thrives on jangly, sun-soaked guitars and buoyant pop beats, all wrapped in TUSHAR’s warm, inviting vocals. There’s an ease and simplicity here that’s refreshing, yet it sparkles with an undercurrent of heartfelt sincerity. TUSHAR doesn’t just craft songs; he creates moments that resonate. ‘Feels Like A Start’ is the musical equivalent to laying on a grassy hill on a sunny day, surrounded by wildflowers, and making out shapes of the clouds as they float by.
TUSHAR shares that creating the EP was such a fun and personal journey for him.
“With ‘Tonight’, we wanted to capture those hilariously awkward moments we’ve all had—the kind of late-night calls you cringe at later but can’t help but laugh about. This EP is all about finding joy and humour in life’s little moments, and I hope it brings people a sense of happiness and connection,” he said.
Recorded at Danger Deer Studios and Benny’s home studio in Adelaide, Feels Like A Start was brought to life in collaboration with Benny Tamblyn and acclaimed producer Mario Spate (Elsy Wameyo, Megan Washington, MANE).
Since forming in 2021, TUSHAR has played notable stages like SXSW Austin, New New Fest Dallas, Scouted Adelaide, and NYE On The Hill, Victoria. With his energetic stage presence and relatable lyrics, he’s quickly becoming a rising star on the indie scene. Beyond creating infectious tunes, TUSHAR is also a passionate advocate for the South Asian music community.
