The enigmatic MANE unveils genre-transcending new EP, 'Caught In The Undertow'

The enigmatic artist, MANE has today released her latest EP, ‘Caught In The Undertow’, which showcases the artist’s gift for weaving emotive narratives into captivating melodies, and delves deep into love, hope and healing. It’s an EP that transcends genres and connects on a profound level with listeners.

The EP’s lead single, 'We Run', which debuted earlier this week, is a queer anthem that encapsulates the essence of love while embracing inclusivity, making it the heart of MANE's EP. This masterpiece by MANE emerged from a virtual session with Pip Norman during the pandemic. This heartwarming song, delivered with delicate lyrics, is MANE’s tribute to her fiancé and their unwavering bond amid personal struggles. Beyond their story, it pays homage to the wider queer community, honouring pioneers and encouraging those navigating the journey.

With ‘Caught In The Undertow’, MANE has created something powerfully cathartic, dialling up the intensity in both light and shade, and bringing up big moments while also knowing to pull back and let the delicate moments take over. It’s cinematic alt-pop, with beautifully sketched landscapes that blend the organic with the synthetic, all allowing for MANE’s stunning vocal delivery to emanate hope and change. ‘Caught In The Undertow’ is richly-nostalgic, while remaining inventive and fresh.

Drawing inspiration from the title track 'Breathing Again', the EP title 'Caught In The Undertow' captures the essence of hope and healing amid life's tumultuous currents. MANE's heartfelt journey unfolds through each track, encapsulating moments of vulnerability, resilience, and introspection.

Collaboration and creative synergy play a pivotal role in the creation of this EP. Guided by the astute production of Mario Spate and the visionary direction of Benjamin Tamblyn-Morrow, MANE's vision is elevated to new heights. Their collective efforts bring depth and authenticity to every sonic layer.

The making of 'Caught In The Undertow' was a dynamic process that encapsulated both musical exploration and visual inspiration. Mario’s studio, ‘Danger Deer’, situated on Kaurna Land, provided the backdrop for a week of intense recording in May 2022. Through the journey, the trio immersed themselves in the natural world, drawing from nature's beauty and intricacies to shape the sonic landscape of the EP.

Reflecting on the emotional journey that shaped this EP, MANE opens up about the profound significance of each track.

“Each song on this EP was written during what has and continues to be a very tormenting/painful season of my life. A season that I continue to struggle to put into words. Because of that, I wanted each song on this EP to be focussed around the love and healing moments that kept/keep me afloat during trying times. It’s a reminder to myself and those listening that sadness and hope can both coexist. I think hope is a currency we all crave to continue to move forward in life…. so finding it (in whatever capacity that might look like for you) is pretty essential to the human experience.”

MANE's natural ability to weave personal experiences into universally relatable stories through her vocal and lyrical delivery is a shining example of an artist pushing their own envelope. MANE’s recent signing with European Publishing Company Musica, who are administered by Kobalt, is a testament to her songwriting talents. 'Caught In The Undertow' resonates as an anthem of hope, reminding us that even amid life's relentless currents, moments of clarity and healing can be found.

Along with today's release comes an EP tour announcement with 4 Australian dates. Having spent the last few years focusing on the US market, this will be MANE’s first headline AUS tour since 2018.

‘Caught In The Undertow’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
