Brisbane's Wifecult deliver emotionally-charged alt rock single, 'Hold It Down'.

Brisbane alt-rock outfit, Wifecult return with a brand new single, emotionally-charged single, ‘Hold It Down’, which is the second track to drop from the freshly announced EP, ‘Kindness In Clarity, An EP’, which is due out on June 9.

The release of the new track coincides with the announcement of Wifecult’s place as local supports for two Queensland shows on Ocean Grove’s ‘Bored Of The City’ regional tour with Deez Nuts and Bloom. Wifecult will appear at Mo’s Desert Clubhouse (Gold Coast) on Thursday April 27, before opening the show at Solbar (Maroochydore) on Friday April 28. Tickets on sale via Destroy All Lines.

‘Hold It Down’ is heavily reminiscent of ‘Five Star Laundry’-era Motor Ace; it’s heavily melodic, and carries all the weight of late 90s/early 00s Australian alt rock. Jarith Hughes’ guitars sparkle with just a touch of distortion in the right moments, before letting go with plenty of crunch, with the rhythm section of Joseph Keating and Brad Vander Lugt on bass and drums respectively holding the fort. Joining the likes of emotionally-lyric heavy melodic rock of contemporaries Loser, and Semantics, Wifecult have carved out an intelligent, mosh-ready stunner of a track in ‘Hold It Down’.

Fuelled by muted, nostalgic surf riffs and soaked in thoughtful theming, Hold It Down is an anthem that sets out to unify Wifecult and their listeners offering an emotional message of support and understanding for those struggling with their mental health.

“Depression is a vulnerable subject, at times cheapened and worn out by our sterile societal approach to handle it, or the overuse of ‘mental health’ vocabulary thrown around in daily conversations," shares vocalist Jarith Hughes.

"In its depths, this song is about watching a loved one truly struggle, lost in orbit, for a long time. Wishing I could pull them out of the dark, but still at times being there myself. It's trying to balance compassion and empathy with practical efforts to walk through it with them. It’s not the blind leading the blind. Sometimes it takes someone who knows, by your side to ride it out together.”

Hold It Down embraces the riff-rock nostalgia of the records the trio grew up on, tastefully utilising the full palette of major and minor chord voicings to create Wifecult’s signature catchy hooks reminiscent of Silverchair, Something For Kate and at times Nirvana.

Wifecult's latest offering is pulled from the band's sophomore extended release, 'Kindness In Clarity, An EP' out early June. Chapter two of Wifecult’s genre warping catalogue ‘Kindness In Clarity, an EP’ could be a bridge over some very troubled waters. The quartet of songs, widely contrasting in sound and feel, have a crimson thread woven delicately between them - pain, and a willingness to face it.

The dynamic trinity of Jarith Hughes (ex-The Almost) on guitar and vocals, Brad Vander Lugt (La Dispute) on drums, and Joseph Keating (ex-Sunbleached) on bass and vocal harmonies, Wifecult bring years of industry experience to the table, drawing on the angst and nostalgia of the bands that came before them.

Following on from the success of their debut album ‘When All Is Said and Done’, the group has gained a lot of momentum off the back of their captivating live performances alongside the likes of WAAX, The Comfort, Pridelands and more. Don't miss Wifecult supporting Ocean Grove with Deez Nuts and Bloom later this month!

Hold It Down is available and streaming everywhere now. 'Kindness In Clarity, An EP'  will be available and streaming everywhere Friday June 9.
