Sunshine Coast's Lazy Guns unleash new attitude-loaded single, 'In My Shadow'
Sunshine Coast’s Lazy Guns follow up a big 2022 with a brand new attitude-driven single, ‘In My Shadow’, which gives another taste of their forthcoming debut album.
The new single shows a song of strident rock and strong retorts, written by frontman Jack, and his older sister, Paris Smith, letting loose a darker, fiercer side of the Lazy Guns sound.
‘In My Shadow’ sees Lazy Guns really honing in on their inner-Cesters and letting loose a darker, more alternative version of Jet, seemingly blending with Nimrod-era Green Day to a point. It’s a simple attitude-loaded riff that drives from the start, with a kick that pumps right through your chest. Frontman Jack’s vocals play-off the distorted chiming of the guitars, with the combined effort soaked in overdriven swagger. It’s FM-ready rock with the big choruses to back that up.
This single is ultimately about rising up against someone that has hurt you, and realising that you are better than that person, and that they will always be ‘in your shadow’. The moment of inspiration is just as powerful as the end result, as Jack says “It was a really spontaneous and special moment between my sister and I that turned out to be one of the strongest and most original tracks from our album.”
Lazy Guns officially hit the scene in early 2022 and have since been honing their craft. With the release of their debut single ‘Runaway’, and their sophomore release ‘I Like It (When I’m with You)’, Lazy Guns have found promising support across radio stations such as Triple M, Rebel FM and 4ZZZ, as well as a string of indie blogs
With a driving rhythm section and searing guitars, ‘In My Shadow’ stomps confidently into a moodier space without overplaying any of the classic influences. This single maintains the addictive qualities of vibrant rock music and Lazy Guns promise that the upcoming album has more of it.
‘In My Shadow’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
