Sydney's Grace Amos releases catchy, blistering new dance rock single, 'Nothing To Say'
Sydney’s Grace Amos follows up her explosive previous single, ‘Kiss You Til I’m Sober’ with her brand new dance-rock fuelled track, ‘Nothing To Say’. The new single leads in to the upcoming release of Grace’s debut EP, ‘ALL ABT U’ which is due to release on September 2.
This is all ahead of her performance at Valleyways Festival (alongside triple j favourites, The Rubens, and Middle Kids, on September 10).
‘Nothing To Say’ oozes with fuzz and sass. It’s a hard pop-rock track that brings to mind the edgier female artists who blurred the boundaries between alt and pop and conquered the airwaves throughout the mid-noughties. Grace’s vocal ability is super-confident rocknroll that toys with the listener, and one gets the feeling we’re only getting a portion of what she is truly capable of. Bundle this up with a super-fuzzy bass line, thumping, loose drums, and buzz-saw guitars (with a well-overdue phaser-ed solo), and you have a track ready to infiltrate FM radio. Plus, that vocal melody and bass line are just begging for a fully-fledged dance floor remix (challenge thrown down).
Exceptionally prolific at 18 years of age, Grace has created a playful, youthful, confident and decidedly edgy track, which is everything she encapsulates as an artist.
It’s an irresistible rock track, inspired by Grace’s musical heroes Alanis Morrisette and Miley Cyrus. Distorted guitars chug alongside a pulsing beat, while Grace’s clear, assertive vocal takes centre stage. It’s her most mature offering yet, and sets the course for Grace’s upcoming EP; fans can expect more fire from this exciting young artist very, very soon.
Speaking on the inspiration behind ‘Nothing To Say’, Grace reflects, “The song was originally about someone I knew who thought they knew everything, always had to share their opinion and fill the silence but ultimately, they really had ‘nothing to say’. When working on the song 6 months after the original demo I realised I had this one person on my mind a bit and needed to vent! The lyrics are about someone who is all talk and no game basically — it’s all a bit of fun really.”
‘Nothing To Say’ is just a taste of what is to come with the release of Grace’s debut EP ALL ABT U, scheduled to drop on September 2. Each single Grace has dropped this year has been building to the EP, and hinting at the rocky new direction of her sound. Previous single ‘Kiss You Til I’m Sober’ describes the hot frustration and anticipation of the seconds before a romantic catalyst and holds a similar sense of confidence as ‘Nothing To Say’.
Hinting at what’s to come on the EP, Grace says, “My forthcoming debut EP has this amazing consistency in sound for all the tracks that I’ve recorded so far. It’s deliberate, and distinct and it’s uniquely me. I want people to hear my music and immediately know it’s my sound.”
ALL ABT U is a fully-formed vision, created by an artist completely in control of her sound. As Grace prepares for her festival debut in September, it’s clear that this is all just the beginning for this incredible young artist.
