Australian Alt Rock kings, The Butterfly Effect break 14-year album hiatus with new LP, 'IV'
Brisbane’s lords of epic alternative rock, The Butterfly Effect finally break their 14-year album hiatus by unveiling their latest EP, ‘IV’. Having teased a return to form in 2019 with the single ‘Unbroken’, which saw Kurt Goedhard, Ben Hall and Glenn Esmond reunite with vocalist Clint Boge, and consequently with more single drops over the past 12 months, the full album is finally ready to fill the cups of ‘Effected’ fans.
A band significantly well-versed in writing, recording and life on the road, The Butterfly Effect remain one of the all-time Australian greats of their generation, from their critically-acclaimed previous releases, to their voracious live shows both at home and abroad.
The new album, the first since 2008’s epic ‘Final Conversations of Kings’ is an electrifying journey through love and hate, gains and losses, life, death and beyond, delivered in a way that the legendary Brisbane four-piece can convey.
‘IV’ is as immersive as it is pummelling. The 14-year break between records for The Butterfly Effect has resulted in their most rocking moment, for whatever they have been storing inside themselves in that time has flooded out in to these 10 tracks. The epic goosebump-inducing moments that Clint, Kurt, Ben and Glenn are known for conjuring are right there in tracks like ‘Visiting Hours’, ‘Unbroken’ and ‘Great Heights’, and those craving the more frenetic moments, ‘Nil By Mouth’ and ‘So Tired’ will leave you satisfied. ‘Wave Of Tides’ is the true hidden gem of ‘IV’ perfectly blending dark riffing and prog moments, with the track’s epilogue the chef’s kiss. The Butterfly Effect have delivered our favourite Australian release this year.
To help bring this epic to life, the band enlisted a tried and true list of producers and engineers, including Forrester Savell, Nick DiDia, Matt Bartlem, Clint Vincent, Luke Palmer and Stuart Stuart to bring various pieces of this album together.
‘IV’ may be arriving at a very different stage of life, both for the band personally and their legion of lifelong fans, the album is a textbook example of expecting the unexpected, offering a chance for a collection of songs to finally leap into the world alongside freshly written material, as vocalist Clint Boge shares, “I am so happy we got here to this point in time. Some of these songs were written straight after ‘Final Conversation of Kings’ and would have been on the next album had we stayed together. So for these songs to see the light of day and for us to be able to present them to all who wish to listen is a huge privilege and a moment I won’t forget.”
‘Effected’ fans will get their chance to see the new tracks, alongside steady faves, performed live as The Butterfly Effect take the album on the road for their first national tour in a very long time, taking the band from Cairns to Sydney, from Hobart to Fremantle, all throughout October.
‘IV’ is out now on all streaming platforms. Tickets to The Butterfly Effect - IV 2022 Tour are on sale now.
