Collidastate follow-up debut single with new, brooding contemporary rock track, 'Judge'

It’s only been two weeks since we’ve had time to take in Collidastate’s debut single, ‘Out of Time’, and they’ve already gone and released a follow-up in ‘Judge’.

The Sunshine Coast-meets-Adelaide duo have flipped the switch and moved away from the melodious surf-folk-rock of the debut single, this time getting a little darker.

‘Judge’, much like its predecessor ‘Out of Time’, still leans heavy on the sounds of Australian contemporary rock, this time bringing in reverb-and-delay drenched lead, and darker tones which bring to mind the sounds of The Church. The siren-like drone guitar kicks in right from the start, with the ominous tub-thumping, along with muted guitar lines casting a grey, before that chorus, which lifts, yet still remains melancholy. ‘Judge’ displays a stormy flip-side to what Collidastate have shown, yet still remains true to their Oz rock storyteller approach.

This is the second single to be released from Collidastate’s upcoming debut EP, ‘Resilience’, which the duo of James Padley and Graham Nisbet recorded & produced at Graham’s home studio.

While the ‘Resilience’ EP is due mid-July, you can take in the new, brooding single, ‘Judge’ right now via all streaming platforms.
